Just wanted to pass on a little problem we had on Saturday for those using these stands.

Have a set of the cheaper pro-light / skytec type black winch stands. Have used for about 2 years. However as we were winching on Saturday, the roller which the cable goes over gave on me - the mounting simply buckled as we winched. Could have been a dissaster! Should point out that we never hold the lights on the cable - winch and pop in safety bolt and lower to reduce tension on the cable.

Luckly we had a spare stand in the van, but it did mean de-rigging the goalpost in order to pop the new stand in. Just be careful!

never had a prob with mine but ta for the warning have to say i do check the stands to make sure all bolts are tightened etc and all is as it should be at every gig before i put anything on them as i once noted a loose nut as i was putting a speaker on a stand a while back.

This is the very reason that it's worth spending a bit more money on winch stands and getting the CE safety mark on them.

I had the Prolight winch stands for a while and was 100% happy with the winches.

Get what you pay for I guess--which is what we tell everyone who wants a quote:D :D :D

I had a skytec winch stand once, lasted two gigs and then the cable snapped.. luckily not whilst the lights were up high.

I used the pro light ones for about 18 months with no problems though. Other bits eventually broke with age, but nothing disastrous.
