Its typical eh....

BE internet (24meg) announce that they are going to enable my exchange for their service on 28/03/07 (brought forward from 31/03/07) so i spend up to three weeks fighting BT to get a mac code, finally this morning get one (valid to 03/03/07) then recheck the exchange and Be internet are now no longer getting the exchange enabled till 31/03/07!!!!

anyways, i am now looking for a decent ISP, who are reliable, fast, with good UK based support who will allow me to sign up for a minimum of 1 month or more.

Any idea's?

Hmmmm,

Broadband is something I don't understand very well. I understand a network just fine, and run my own home domain...no problemo, but broaband confuses me. Obviously I can use it properly and have it properly installed!!!

I would have thought that no matter who your provider is your speed wouldn't be affected (unless you had a 1mb or 2mb package or a speed package that was less than your exchange could handle). Your broadband speed will be determind on how far you are from the exchange, and how good the quality of the line is (I know that, FACT)....So surely no matter who the provider is, wether it be BT, Tiscali or whoever, your speed won't be affected?

The other thing to take into account is your contention ratio - ie. how many people share your connection at the exchange. If you have a high ratio, your speed will be completely dependant upon how many of your neighbours are using bandwidth.

Personally, I am with the consistently voted top UK broadband provider - Eclipse :D
