Hi guys,
I know some of you can't stand lightboxes but others do, so thought i'd ask what people think about these soundlab ones.

My local dealer got 8 sets in on weds and has only got 3 left.
They do sound to light and normal chase stuff.

Certainly going down well in Belfast at £99

If you like them then there fine. A lot of people dissagree but when it comes down to it , its your disco and your choice. My opinion of them is that they may be to bright and be a bit over powering. But in a big room they would work ok as a colour wash system.

Someone once said to me "a light box is a light box".

These are still light boxes, but that doesn't mean they are bad- depends what you want them to do.
You could sit on them during the gig, stand on them when putting your lights on tbars, use them to light up the hall if the house lights break...........

I built a tall pair with 8 bulbs in each (4 channel bulgin) and they do work brilliantly as a roomfiller. They are coming back into fashion a little apparently.

I used a pair similar to those in a school hall. And they do work well as a room filler and as a colour wash. Stop them on red when you play a couple of slow songs and they are great.

I like them, can't decide if I prefer the long 8x1 sets or these (4x2). Although I would much rather buy a unit that didn't have a built in controller, as your limited to what you can do. I would be using a DMX dimmer instead of a bog standard chaser to extra effects too.

Also, from looking at the picture, you can see the wiring at the back of the box which is pretty bad to say they're professionally manufactured. I built mine with a false back so you can't see any wiring at all.

One big advantage I find with light boxes is that they are good if you do any parties in daylight. They give a nice visual effect where the projected lights hardly show up at all. I use them for childrens parties to add a bit of extra effect.
