Vista was in Beta (testing) for over a year to iron out bugs etc. Vista has also been available since september to those who have large licenses, and due to this I have been using it for the past few months.

It's great. No bugs, and is much safer (in regard to viruses/spyware and general security) than XP :)

Anyone who bought a PC/Notebook from the End of October last year is due a free (ish) upgrade. Depending on which version of XP you have will depend which version of Vista you will get. XP Home = Vista Home Basic. XP Media Centre = Vista Home Premium.

Theres a handling fee of around £20 to process your upgrade, although if it's the basic version you're getting there's an additional fee. You can arrange your upgrade by going to the vista website, contacting the brand of your computer, or possibly the retailer as some sort it (PC World).

It takes 6 to 8 weeks to get it sorted and sent out.

The testing has been going on for a long time now so any major bugs would have probably been found and fixed before it hit general release last week. The hackers will be working overtime on it tho so who knows what will happen as far as security is concerned. It IS the most secure. Doesn't mean they won't find a way...

Oh yeah, and it rocks. My opinion anyway (although technically i'm obliged to have that opinion).

I have yet to have one reason put to me as to why I should upgrade to Vista - not one single reason. XP does everything I need it to, and I will only change when it is necessary (support for XP fades)

have to say i installed the ultimate version on my new buit PC both version x32 and x64 bit the x64 bit version was very unstable and slow the x32 vers is better but both are hungry for memoy if your going to using i recommend that you install 2gb ram as most of the fist gb will be aken in system resources.

as I said on another post regarding this subject, unless it will increase productivity or save costs, we won't be upgrading.

our desktops are all windows 2000 terminal, and our data/mail/proxy server is still running NT SBS 4.0.

good old fashioned but proven technology

I am in no rush to instal Vista because XP does everything I need and I am also changing over to Linux (Ubuntu).

Three other reasons why I have no desire to instal :

I forgot to mention the fact that it doesn't support much legacy hardware and if there are no drivers available by about Mid 2007, you will probably have to scrap whatever it is that doesn't work and buy new.

To get full benefit you need at least 2Gb of RAM and a new graphic's card that will play high definition images (it will run on a lower spec but not brilliantly and not all features available).

We in the UK are being charged twice what the US citizens are paying. If people would boycott buying it then perhaps M$ may stop ripping us off and reduce the price.

And another thing, there is the built in DRM that has been described as the longest suicide note in history.

Like I heard somewhere (from Microsoft) that Vista, will store information about what you do, and then can predict (not all the time) what your going to do, and run any required processes before you instruct the computer to do so, meaning you get a quicker response time.

There are a few features that appear behind the scenes, such as the searching facility which works around a database idea, that was taken from the (now not used) WinFS idea, that was nearly bought out with Vista (Thank god they didn't do it!)

There is also extra software included with the OS, including DVD Maker, Burner, Windows Meeting space etc OH...and theres a new range of games (lol)
