I placed an order yesterday (first time customer). I just got the following email
Sorry, but due to high value and nature of items ordered we would need further card confirmation to proceed.
We would ask you to provide us with a copy of the front and back of your card to prove that the card has not been cloned, along with some form of identification, examples of accepted I.D. would be;
1. A Copy of a photo drivers license
2. A Copy of your passport
3. A Copy of the header of your credit card statement or Utility bill showing your address details
Is this normal?. With so much fraud going on I really dont want to be photocopying my card, drivers license etc and emailing it.

Didn't have that, but then again our first order wasn't that big. Maybe try giving them a call to check it's legit?

Yep, Like Ang said, give them a call. Really helpful and most of them speak better english than we do :D:D

I tried calling (several times), the number gets redirected and no answer. If it's so difficult to get through to them to make an order I can only imagine what it's like if something goes wrong.

How strange! We've never had a problem!

I have bought many things from Thomann over the last year and to my mind it is a pity that more Uk companies are not as efficient and as professional as them (although I have dealt with a couple lately).
I have telephoned them on a number of occasions to either check or change an order and on the only occasion I had a real problem (they sent me the wrong item) theysent a replacement out immediately and told me to keep the original item that they had sent by mistake. I have never been redirected after calling the customer services helpline.
I have heard of another occasion (on another forum) when Thomann requested a Photo Id be sent for as an identity check against a large first time order (in excess of £1000 I believe).

I suppose the extra security is a good thing. Based on everyone's good experiences with the company I've forwarded the photo identification as requested. The email address they provided is exactly as listed on their website so I don't think there's any chance of the email being a spoof.
Thanks for your input guys (and gal). I'll let you know how I got on.

if they knew you had just ordered chances are its not fraudulent- i think sometimes you can take the whole security issue a bit far- if your using a credit card you are generally pretty safe in that you can claim it back.

Yes, but its the production of additional ID that is unusual in these circumstances, and the worry of identity theft - not just fraudulent use of your card.
I think you're right though - I can't see the request being a bogus one

This is normal practice really, we do it at HTFR if its a high value / foreign country etc...

Yeah. Been there since about September, my disco bookings weren't coming in as much as I hoped, so decided to get an easy 9 - 5 job, and I saw that pop up, and thought it would be ideal for cheap gear and good contacts :)

Well I can but try, as I said though, I have not been there long yet. I do believe that I spoke to one of you on the phone not so long ago at the store regarding the other bit of the site thats coming soon, or is already here in the paid section (I will pay up, just not sorted my pay pal since I had to cancel my cards etc...)

Just coming back to Thomann again, I ordered a flight case from them on 6th February, got a text message to say it had been despatched the next day and it turned up this morning, so all good!

Since I started this topic I've had a good line of communication with Thomann via email. They've handled all my queries extremely fast.
All's looking good at the moment.

Was just about to place a nice big order on Thomann. Went to pay - and they don't take switch cards. That's all I have. Hmm, plan B....

It is normal for Thomann to ask for ID as described, I had to do it when I bought my 2 heads.

You need a credit card!! You'll find almost no international traders taking Switch (or other debit cards). It's also a bit risky to try and use it for large purchases especially outside the UK, as you have no protection unlike a credit card which acts like a sort of buffer between your cash and the trader.

Hahaha, I can't find the d@mn card, but I don't think it is Visa anyway, and there is a £550 limit on it. I was intent on buying the HD2500 through Thomann aswell :(

Can't remember if mine was Visa or Mastercard, but that's the one I used to purchase my heads and had to prove ID for.
So you should be OK..... credit limit allowing:D

How are you getting on with this, Shaun?
I ask because I would like to purchase a unit from them too, and there is only ~1 month until it's release :)
Shaun
23-02-2007, 01:37 AM
Nothing further to report.
I have the unit on pre-order from Thomann, and I'm just awaiting 'Denon' getting thier act together and distributing the units. It's just 'The Waiting Game' at the moment.

Well I opted for the pre-payment, bank transfer option, so EUR 713 is currently being wired across to Germany so should get confirmation soon...

I sent Thomann an email asking them if they had heard anything about the rumours regarding the release date being put back till the end of March (Thomann had told me earlier that the release date would be Feb 28th).
Here's the reply I got.
Hi there,
Rumours rumours....could be true in the UK Shaun but I have spoken to them here and we are still on for the 28th
Many thanks,
If true I could have the new unit in a week.
*fingers crossed*

It's not a rumour when it comes from a Denon rep (Silvio) - unless it's some kind of a PR stunt, to pretend to delay it then release it on time. Although what purpose that would serve I do not know

Or they haven't made enough to cope with demand & Germany is getting theirs a few weeks before the UK
