Advice Required

I am looking to upgrade my equipment. i want to buy a new amp and speakers.

i do varying gigs but have recently got two contracts in two 4 star hotels.

can anyone recommend a good amp and speakers?

what about the new waudio active speakers- never been a fan of actives myself but people seem to have good things to say about them, and you get a nice bag for them included in the price....

I got some W Audio PSR15A's and have been running them for about a month now.

Very impressive , can be picked up online for £449ish

In my umble opinion I would go for a Behringer EP2500 Amp approx £220.00
Then buy the best quality 12" full range speakers you can afford, because there is no doubt sooner rather than later you will want a pair of 15" subs to go with them , if you go that way you won't have any problems with amp power or speaker matching later on.

There are many options really, but I personally am hoping to get the Mackie SRM 450s this year :)

This budget seems a little on the light side, considering the OP (2 contracts with 2 x 4star hotels)

Although not a huge fan of powered speakers myself, (but that is only personal preference) in this case a set of Mackie SRMs would be ideal for what you've described, great sound suitable for the number of guests, and surely these 4star hotels deserve more than a couple of cheap £100 cabs?

Work out what you're earning, how long to cover your costs and make a business decision.

Not necessarily about the make of the cabs (though a fine choice), but the reasoning behind it.

Also, you can get Mackies at the moment for £799 a pair if you look around and that's not a lot over your budget for amps and speakers.

We own a set of each :). So yeah, it's only a slight difference, but noticable. So for the same money.....

Class D frequently sell cheaper on their ebay shop than their own site, I was wondering how these sound compared to the ones Will & I have already. They are little over Adam's budget (as is the amp I suggested) but if they are better than either model of CD15 then I would recomend them (& want a set myself) along with the Yamaha amp.

Seen those before...niiice, I think it's like adding my cabs and your cabs together Steve (but in a smaller box).

If they're going for £200 on ebay, it's got to be considered!

It would be helpful to know what you have that way we can recomend something better. If it isn't obvious by now I love Yamaha gear. I have been using it since 1987. I have never had a single problem with any piece ever. Other than cosmetic damage do to loading and unloading. I also use Yamaha amps. The P7000s series, but I have used all of the P-Series. I love them all good clean power with no white nosie or interference. Ok Yamaha aside for now. If you get a Behringer EP2500 amp I would also recomend the Eurolive Professional speakers. They can be bi-amped with the built in crossover to run with a x1800 sub and the EP2500 amp and get the most out of it or just ran passive. I set my nephew's band up with these and they sound really good. They use four 1520's and two x1800's. Behringer is also coming out with a dual 15 speaker cab in 2007's 2nd quarter. It is listed under the Eurolive, not the Eurolive pro. Maybe they will upgrade it to a pro later. Here are some specs Professional 900-Watt PA Speaker with 15" Woofers and 1.75" Titanium-Diaphragm Compression Driver. It says the cost will be 219 GPB for Great Britain and 349.99 for the US. how do these class d's sound compared to other brands, ive got 2 pairs of wharfedales ( a pair of svp15's and a pair of evp-x 15's ) and both are falling apart after less than a year so maybe looking to change.

I have a good firend who uses Peavey's for his Dj company. He use the DJS4 Dual 15's. They sound great, almost as good as my Yamaha's. I like the built in wheels.
