Has everyone signed the petition (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/#detail)?
If it comes into force it will affect us all.

Absolutely not - we should only drive when we must, and use public transport at every opportunity. We should be thinking about the welfare of our planet and how we leave it for future generations, not about how much we're going to be taxed.
Although, what happens in the UK is a drop (of pollution) in the ocean, it's the big industries worldwide which need to be regulated for pollution levels.

So even before we get into erosion of civil liberties / Big Brother getting one step closer (bare in mind that we already have more surveillance cameras per head than the USA & most European countries) etc
You're telling me that you would happily either absorb the price of each journey to a gig or hike your prices to cover it, so that the client pays this expense?
Do we not pay enough road tax already? I certainly think so, yet there are still dirty great pot holes in virtually every road in the country.
If this were really about "green issues" then the government has plenty of other ways of stopping people driving unnecessarily. Congestion charges in city centres, toll roads, higher fuel tax / road tax on non commercial vehicles etc.... (Higher fuel tax would have the same effect, the higher your mileage the more you pay, without having to have a tracking device fitted)
I have nothing to hide but I'm in no way happy to have any vehicle of mine fitted with a tracking device, unless it's for my own pace of mind if it gets stolen. You can bet it won't be used for tracking down stolen vehicles either!
Who is going to foot the bill for having these devices installed, not the government, that's for sure. No, it will be down to the hapless individual who actually owns it. So not only are they going to track your every movement & charge you for however far you go, they will also charge you for the privilege!
I hae nothing against paying higher road or fuel tax if it means the roads are actually looked after with the money, but quite simply they are not.

Hmmm I think you will find on historical record ALL Politicians lie whatever party they belong to---generally on the really big issues--like this one.
If I mentioned Common Market Vote in the early 70s which has resulted in a sell out to the EU or Iraq more recently you might get the idea.
Do not believe anything they tell you this is pure tax raising.
Agreed the pollution issue is massive and needs addressing by honest people with integrity -who dont have a financial agenda--bribes etc.
So thats all the Politicians out of the frame then:D
Rant over
have a nice day

What we need to do is hit people who drive around with big engines hard with tax, I know there is already a system like this in place, but it's not enough. If this new system of taxing deters people from making unnecessary journeys - then that can only be a good thing?

Why when there are more feasible ways of doing it as mentioned in my previous post? Such ways that don't infringe on your civil liberties or cost people with small vehicles (small engines) the same initial outlay of having the d@mned thing fitted in the first place.
The whole idea is just plain wrong!
Every time you travel to a gig you will be taxed for the privilege

well here somthing for you to ponder over.
Where are we gonna get the parts to make these devices?
What are they gonna be make out of?
Is pollution gonna be make to make these and to fit them?
the answers are the same a driving a car. they also would make more pollution to make them :D

if it happens, you add the cost to your charges- people will know about it and accept that its an increase on your overheads.
hardly going to double your costs, and we need to look at the bigger picture...
Corabar Steve

& the bigger picture is Big Brother is coming.
I'm not sure how much credence there is in the petition though. It is on a government site but the site in question is to let people petition the government about anything. One I'm seriously thinking about signing is "Christmas stock should not be sold until 1st December", quite how successful "Make Gold by Spandau Ballet the National Anthem" will be remains to be seen :d

It's obvious Steve is angry for even such an idea to go as far, to the point we have to sign a petition.
And quite frankly I agree. It's an outrage that the government think they can "spy" on our lives, taking away our privacy bit by bit. The next think you'll know is cubicals in public toilets will be taken away, just leaving the toilet. "Ah ****, my bog roll has run out, pass us a bit mate will ya" - No thanks.
This country will slowly become more and more government controlled unless we do something now, before they get any more clever ideas.
It's fair enough to go on about pollution, and recyling etc but if that is the case, then they can bring in laws about that. Only recently when I moved did we even have a recycling box that is collected once a week, whats a few quid for a box!?
This idea needs to be knocked on the head before it goes to far, those of you supporting the idea, think about the consiquences of allowing the goverment to continue with this (i.e. they will clamp down, harder and harder as times progresses). If you want to do something for the enviroment, then you can personally do more, and if your really fanatic about it, start up a local group. But don't help the government take away Britains Privacy!

Global warming!?!
My left butt cheek!!!
Pollution is warming the earth??
That must be why its -6'C outside.
The government are just using scare tactics to justify more tax revenue.
I do agree that we should look after our planet, but money isn't the way forward.

Clever ideas??
When did the Government EVER have any clever ideas?
You need clever people in Government in the first place.
Most of them couldnt run a Mobile Disco let alone the UK.

It's an issue when you consider that as a citizen of this country, you are supposed to have the right to free movement. Having somebody aware of your every move is hardly free movement.
As I said earlier you can guarantee that these tracking devices won't be used for recovery of stolen vehicles & there is already more surveillance in this country than any other. So much for it being a free country
