Idel Start-up Kit - Advise Needed.

Hi Folks,

Am looking for my first set up and appear to have too much choice in the way of equipment.

I would like some advice on what would be considered a good first setup (Brand/Minimum equipment suitable, etc)

I have seen a few popular Twin CD decks (Numark/KAM, etc)

Should I go for All in one decks/Amp or separates?

If I use a PC as an additonal library to CDs, how do I connect to main kit, etc?

Plenty of kit on the likes of ebay New/2nd Hand. Not sure if I want to risk buying 2nd hand but could save a fair bit of cash by doing so.

Totally :confused: but want to get cracking asap.

I guess an initial budget to be no more than £1K

Usual type of gigs, Birthdays/Anniversaries/Weddings, etc to max of perhaps 250 people I guess but who knows?

Having already got a substantial mixed CD/vinyl collection (currently being coverted to digital), investment in tunes would be minimal, so budget would really be for equipment only.

You have to have a digital dj licence, there are many ways of connecting your computer to mixer/amp e.g. usb but the most common is 1/8 to phono lead.:cool: :cool:

You have to have a digital dj licence,

I would advise waiting on the outcome of the PPL and MCPS findings before going down that route.

(In other words, they're taking their time sorting out a viable licence)

For starters and at less than £300 with a case as well, then yes.

The only thing that would worry me slightly is that there doesn't appear to be separate eq on each channel on the mixer.

Another good option would be to look out for retiring/quitting DJs selling their entire setup. I've seen quite a few go for a steal of a price.

All the 'little extras' really do mount up! As Beerfunk says, your best bet may be to look out for DJs selling up, or just keep you eye out for 2nd hand bargains!

Basically I'm looking for the full set-up apart from the music.
I've got a PC which I'd probably use, but obviously that's not necessarily the priority part of the kit.

I figured a new set up would prob cost me more than £1K, so I guess it'll be 2nd hand stuff to start with. no big deal :cool:

Still any ideas as to what sort of kit to look out for (or to avoid) would be a big help.

avoid prolight (acme, isolution, american dj) their customer service sucks. Chauvet do some decent budget lighting effects, numark cd players are great, i started with a cheapo numark twin. the amps are good value too.

Their customer service may or may not be rubbish, but you can't fault Acme / Wildtech / iSolution lighting products (as many here will agree).

Don't let your experience with the quick clamps affect your judgement on other products. Don't forget you did say the Dynamo was undamaged after a 3 metre drop.

I agree about Numark CD Players, there are many who rate the CDN22 & others. I've had no experience of their amps

I never said it would be loud enough lol, you could upgrade an extra 50watts for another £40, seems pointless when on a budget. Like its been discussed before, you only need a good volume on the dance floor.
