Do People still use smoke machines?

The Cigarette ban doesn't really affect the use of smoke machines. They aren't banned or anything like that.

It does however make you want to use one more than ever to make your lights look a little better because of the absence of the smokers mist.

Whether or not I use a smoke machine is dependant on the client or the venue. Some clients request on the booking form that they don't want smoke machines used. Also, a lot of venues do not permit their use, particularly if they have sensitive fire alarms.

i just wonder if with the smoking ban we might see more places installing smoke detectors .

a. as it is a good safety measure and if people arent smoking may as well have them

b. to catch the crafty beggers that will sit in the deepest darkest depths of the pub and try and have a crafty one.

certainly round me there is not alot of venues at all where i can use haze or smoke can think of 2 or 3 at most.

Quite a few venues have heat detectors as opposed to smoke detectors, for the exact reason that smoking won't set them off.

Think the bigger venues (with the budget to do it) will install more detectors because of the smoking ban - particularly in toilets. Know of one club I work in that had new talking detectors intalled in the toilets that give a stern talking down to anyone smoking in a toilet.

I've got one but it's not been used for a long time due to smoke detectors pretty much everywhere I go.

If I do use it - it's only occasionally - don't leave the place looking like a wall of fog all evening.

tell ya what ask jamie about foggers (smoke machine) and smoke detectors he loves emptying theatres in the middle of winter.

Since I switched to haze instead of smoke I find more venues willing to 'give it a try' once I convince them they won't be engulfed in thick fog.

Probably get away with haze on about 90% of gigs. Keep the smoker for kids parties etc. in manky old halls.

About the same for me. It seems to be a matter of educating people about the difference between a light water based haze and a choking cloud of oil based fumes.

There is a hotel I play where they have red caps for the smoke detectors, but thats the only one.

Same for me. Hazer at the majority of events, and the smoke machine for school and youth gigs.
