moving heads again!

well saved up some money and sold a few bits on ebay (cheers TVD) so iam going to take the plunge and get some moving heads, as its the norm these days, going to start off with 2 then add 2 more then a couple of wash ones, anyways I have looked at loadsa different one and there is hell of a differnce in price, but it appers most of you guys go for the i-rock/stairville/acem range and they seem good for the money, judging from all the feedback I read.

But i have come across the STAIRVILLE MH250S MOVING HEAD range which have the discharge bulb and rotating gobos, I would prefer the rotaing ones, but I cant find any reveiws on them.

so chaps yoour thoughts on them and any other suggestions would be most appricated before i spend loads money.

Doh! Misread your post. I was going to recomend the 150w disharge units over the 250 halogens.. but looks like you're going for the 250 discharge ones which would be even better.

Although the 150 discharge ones are only £240 each, so you could have twice as many for the same money. Can't find them on thomann's site at the moment though.. guess they must be out of stock.

Didnt know there was a different on the bulbs, shows you how I looked, iam not to bothered on brightness, personally I will go for a standard 250 watt as not to dazzel so much, its the rotaing gobos that I prefer:D

We have just got a pair of the 150w HID lamp iMove's in at the shop I work at. It is definitely worth getting them over the halogen lamp. They look waay brighter, and much clearer defined beams. And you do get that nice white light as well. However, I agree with the rotating gobos bit, if only iSolution added rotating gobos then the lights would be perfect for me.

I don't think the 250w halogen ones have rotating gobos.. i could be wrong though. Plus, with the 150w discharge only £40 more per head.. its certainley worth the extra for the reasons edwin mentioned.. plus halogen in a moving light isn't the best idea!

And please don't say because the lamps won't last long 'cos I've had my head 5 months and only changed the lamp once in 2 of them and not at all in the other 2. ;)

Well just going on the "rules".. you're not supposed to move halogen lamps when they're hot, i know in real life you may never have a problem.. but its worth the extra for the discharge ones anyway.. now if only thomann would put them back on their website!

P.S. They 150 versions used to be quite a bit more expensive than the halogen ones.. its only recently when i've seen them at only a little bit more.

Well just going on the "rules".. you're not supposed to move halogen lamps when they're hot,Surely that would only apply to moving the lamps themselves? Inside the unit, the lamps are static, aren't they? Isn't it the housing that moves??

Anyway (and I'm not disputing what you are saying) what are the risks involved?

I think with the halogen lamps, you're not supposed to move them in order to give them a 'bump' which will blow them. The moving heads have smooth movement, or they should anyway.

well I managed to bag 4 Elv 150 moving heads plus the controller, they look pretty good from what I can see and they have rotaing gobos all for 800 quid and I shall get them on sunday. does anyone use them? what they like?

Yes they are second hand or as I like to call them preloved, its a gamble but I get them on sunday I shall let yer know what they are like
