I recently received a 'spam' email offering the services of a print company called 'Fairprint' based in Scotland (not to be confused with another company of the same name in the South of England).

The links in the email didn't work, so I did a search for their company on the internet and found their website, which was 'under construction' with very little info on there. However I noticed that they printed vinyl banners, and so wanted further information about this. So, I replied to the email requesting additional information about their banners (eg construction, eyeletting, finishing, turn around) plus an estimate of the cost - I didn't receive a reply (that was nearly 3 weeks ago).

Yesterday, I had another look on their website and found that the email address on there was different to the 'return' email I had sent my enquiry to, so I forwarded by original email to the email address on their website, stating that I hadn't received a reply to my 1st email, but that I presumed that it had not been passed on.

Today, I received an email from them - no apology or explanation as to why the original email had not been responded to in some way, no information about the banners that I had requested, just a cold 'quote' (which also contained some rather strange anomalies including a statement saying "As per our standard terms and conditions we will endeavour to meet the quantity shown above to within 5%"... does this mean that the banner wouldn't be the size you order!!!!!). So I replied saying thank-you for the quote but I haven't received the information I requested, and pointing out what I wanted to know and querying these anomalies (the quote also appeared on the face of it to state 2 differing weights for the banners, but didn't stipulate the material at all - it may have been paper!). The following is the reply I received:-
Well done…..you are correct we do not sell banners to a large market, we sell to our print customers.

These prices and practices seem to be working very well.

However we do not intend to work with certain types of customers so your business not ideal.

Please spend more time on your own business rather than ask for quotes on products we do not want to sell you anyway.

We will strike you from our records.Hmmm, nice! Someone needs to go on a customer service course methinks! :eek:

What a shocking reply, which email did you send it to? Dundee, Kirkcaldy or Dunfermline? They are all in My (& shauns) neck of the woods.

However i have found that a lot of industry's treat us like this - perhaps not as cheekilly, but i find many insurance companies won't insure vehicles if your associated with the entertainment industry, i used the same insurance company for my car for 7 years and had no problems, as soon as i tried to insure my van with them they didn't want to know - needless to say they lost all my business as a result.

follow up: I called the dunfermline office and asked about banners for my disco company, they stated that they could do it , i then asked about ones for a forthcoming pub and again it was yes she then stated that they deal with all types of companies and wouldn't turn anyone down.
