I know many of us have been looking to upgrade Sound Systems recently, and agonising about what to get. I had convinced myself that a set of Peavey Prosubs were the way forward under my tops, and that money would be very tight for the amp upgrade required. Some Eurosys subs of roughly equivalent spec went for silly money on Ebay, so Prosubs it was. Until one of our number said he had previously had some and was not impressed.
So what to do? Well, I got rained off work, so I rang Class-D, at Mansfield. They were very helpful over the phone, and suggested I take my tops with me to see if we could find something suitable. The Industrial estate is a doddle to find, then you ring to ask where to go, 'cos it's not well signed!
The chaps at Class-D are something else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have £2500 to spare, listen to the " Rotund offspring of unmarried parents" rig, it is truly awesome. And as others have said previously, they are not shy of winding the volume control up a long way to demonstrate their gear. Sadly I was about £2000 short of this kit, so we looked at other options, and the most cost effective option appeared to be the 215's, with a new amp. The obstacle of them being 8ohms was solved by the blindingly simple solution suggested by one of the team- "buy another pair of 215's!" At full stretch then C-Mark 2450 amp, 700w per side, eight 15" speakers, so bass is not a problem, all cables for £500 on the nose. Lose one set of speakers when max volume isn't needed and away we go. Yes they are big heavy things, but so be it. I will let you know how I get on with them all.
