Here is one for fellow CD users!!!!! there are still a few of us about I think lol

I am about to dive in and thin out the cd's I take out with me, I have come to this idea because there are 100s I never seem to play even at the few adult events I do.

My question to you folks is this:-

How often do you prune your "On the road collection" ??

I am thinking case one dedicated for Kids parties then when I do an adult party have a one for them.

Hi Mayhem

I still use both CD's & Laptop but I have to say its 100% better using a laptop especially if you are entertaining out front with the kids, you can pre programme music and you can just let it run plus you can have a rquested song playing within seconds So far I have uploaded 5500 songs on my lappy.

Well I've got mine down to.... err.... 5!

My CD decks play MP3 discs so that helps...

CD1+2 (duplicate): couple of classic tracks from each genre in case of computer problems (never used but nice to have something cued!)

CD3+4 (dupe) : This weeks newly purchased downloads (chart new entries etc.) that I haven't got round to adding to the database

CD5: Event music - "Happy Birthday", etc. that you might need in a hurry if someone calls "Speech"!!! Oh, and the NYE countdown of course.

Everything else comes off the 2 lappies, although I'm seriously considering junking one of the lappies and my CD decks for a Numark D2 plus a backup portable CD player.

Oh, and I always take a tested copy of any first dances on a dedicated CD disk to weddings, so I guess that should read "5 most of the time, 6 on occasion" :o

I never prune my CDs, as you never know what you will need.

I have 2 boxes of them, about 300 cds, which is about 6000 tracks.

However, I am thinking of moving with the times.

Later this year, I am seriously considering replacing the CD player unit in my console with a single CD player (for when the bride & groom hand me a CD and for back up), and replacing the CD controller unit with a Cortex HCD1000.

Yummy! :D :D :D

I find it very hard to prune down the CDs I take out with me (Angela will confirm I'm a hoarder) I solved my logistic problem by putting them all in plastic wallets, which cut my collection down to 3 boxes (well the ones I gig with anyway)

Same as Steve - I do have a kids party box which I take to under 8s parties, anything above that gets the full cd selection of two flightcases and three caselogic wallets...

Plus a 180 page list of where the track is....

Would love a laptop but until the digital DJ license/SG6 etc licence is sorted and I'm told it's 100% legal (same as the Cortex/Denon HD2500) it'll be CDs all the way....

Why risk being the example for all others with a £1000 fine per track you have?

i cut my 11 cases to 9 by taking out duplicates and singles that were also on albums etc.

i prune mine every time i cant fit anymore cds in my box - carry around 1000 plus cds of all genres.

With all mine on a database its easy to find duplicates when I want to - and narrow the collection down that way.

but all the old ones sit on a shelf at home unless for around 6 monthes before I get rid of them...

I have 3 flip cases (each holds 700 discs) and was going to prune them down to 2 just before xmas. Then my airhead/roadie/assistant dj decided to leave a case in a taxi  - never to be seen again. Nice bit of pruning he done. lol... not the type I would of liked. My roadie has just regained use of his legs after they got broken. :p

Another time before I pruned my discs an hour before going to a gig. Among the few discs I took out was a local bands last release single. One hour later I walked into gig and guess who was on stage doing the speeches - the lead singer of that band. D'oh!. It was his mums party. Would of been great to play his song. Always the way. :o
