For the benifit of those of us thinking about going digtial & buying a Cortex / D2 / DN-HD2500 etc, what exactly is tagging?

How do you do it properly?

What does it entail in a program such as say Audiograbber?

Are there any tricks of the trade so to speak?

Are some programs better for tagging than others?

Not a lot to it really.

All mp3 files have the option to add more information in thier ID tags. Tagging is basically making sure all the ID tags that are contained within your mp3's have thier information fields 'filled in'. The ID tags contain information such as Artist, Title, Genre, Year etc. Once the Tags have been completed it makes searching for specifics such as Genre etc a whole lot easier.

In Audiograbber just enter your cd, if the software doesn't pick up the tracklist automatically click on the Freedb button to connect to the online database. Should you need to individually manually add tag information goto settings and choose 'id3v1 tag', from there you can manually add information. There's quite a few options in the genre dropdown, or you can manually add a genre of your own choosing.

So in theory, you could use Napster to rip MP3s from CD?

Yep, should do the job fine, although I don't know if you can use audiograbber to alter tags from any source other than CD.

There are other Tagging software that will do the job though. Tag&Rename (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm) is a good one.
