Is it ok to put moving heads with discharges bulbs on top of speakers

Yes and no, the bulb may be affected by vibrations, shortening the life. Also some stands have a mx weight and as moving heads are heavy it may tip it over the max weight.
Other than these concerns speakers are quite a firm base in most respects and mean you can place lighting in a normally quite dim area.

You could put a thin sheet of dense (stiff) foam under the heads to absorb some of the vibrations. It would need to be dense enough not to make them unstable though :eek:
Even a piece of carpet would help.:D

My heads actually have a speaker setting on then, so it should be OK to put them on there, but as others have said, it could shorten the lamp life.

As do mine.... Stairville ones. I suspect they are thinking more of a full on Rock & Roll set up with speaker stacks that bloomin big'n'heavy that they don't vibrate.... the rest of the room does....:cool:

Actually, I have mine on the speaker setting even though they are on a double bar in the air.

They start getting on my nerves if they come behind too often!

Of course if we are totally honest, the areas we need to cover and the position we are set up in, we really don't need moving heads on a mobile disco. Scans will do the job perfectly well.
........But they're not moving heads though, are they :D

I've had scanners and always found they are way too fast (I don't DMX), which is what I like about the heads - they are slower.

Also, the fact that you can see the beams without smoke and they have a really nice mellow slow setting for slowies too.

Now I'm the king of thinking of excuses to buy gear I simply "want", but I do like that one!
I could almost believe you. Just admit it, you've always wanted moving heads to play with and when they became available within a sensible price range.......
I bet there are scans that will just the same, e.g. the equivalent Stairville ones for a start :D

Actually, no, my reasons are genuine.

I never considered movers before and have some of the other Isolution/Stairville barrels and scans, but they are too fast and not as 'visual' as the heads either.

They have different programmes - the one I use is an 'all in front' type programme and there are others which are ceiling to floor and floor to ceiling.

Is that what you meant?

But to clarify.... it's a setting, or personality if you like, that limits the movement of the head to be optimal when sat on a speaker. No point in making pretty paterns where no-one will see!
