Calling all cortex users

Hi guys
Ive had a Cortex hdc 1000 for a couple of weeks and seem to have a problem when starting the unit up it freezes and have to unplug it and start again also through out the night it reboots it self about 5 times im sure this is not right has anybody else had this problem as I think i may have a faulty unit

Hi John, sounds like maybe a faulty unit.

Unless your tagging is the problem.

Been back testing mine for ages and it hasnt frozen or rebooted.

Spin and Dragonfly are using theirs every week on gigs ( as far as I know)
without a problem---I know tagging was a problem for both of them to start with.

Best test is to put say 100 tunes on a memory stick which have tags that dont contain anything other than basic lettering and numbers---i.e. no punctuation like slashes, commas, then backtest see if it still has problems.

Speak to any of us if you have more problems.

had problems starting up sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts lights up but just like a blank screen with squares where writing should be?? also the power connection at the back ive noticed is very loose so going to take mine in tomorrow to see if this is normal??? having said that did my first full gig with the cortex last night and no function problems at all worked a treat.

The cortex appears very suseptable to bad power. So when a building has bad electrics it can effect it. Try using a UPS system to protect it.

Dunno about autofade just trying to start the unit up and keep it going that would be a good start also when loading files its taking ages to load a song keeps saying processing just in time before the previous song ends bingo were there and im using a 7200 hard drive

im still in the early stages of testing but not having these loading problems at all??? takes a couple of seconds. the power up at the start yes ive had the takes a couple of goes thing happen but its never turned its self off or rebooted??

Agree 100 per cent with Dragonfly on that, instant selection.

Back test with a small number of correctly tagged tracks, if still a problem go sraight back to the dealer and ask for another one.

Been playing with my Cortex for a few days now and runs perfectly, no problem.

Sorry was unable to respond quicker, bad power can be as small as a fridge or hair drier on the same circuit. Also worth checking polarity, remember the cortex is basically a computer so it can be interfeared with very easily.
Maybe put your lighting on another circuit or use a surge protector.

No luck it seems to be getting worse tried it with 3 hard drives keeps doing stupid things like locking up and now when you try to search for a artist it keeps jumping back to the search for songs and wont select what you want been emailing cortex about it and the said you have to keep you finger on power button for 1 minuite to power it up this dont sound right at all my opion of cortex is not very good so far and i would not recomend anyone buying this controller I wish i waited

right just a bit of info on the start up issues ... i was talking to two other cortex users this morning who have both experienced the start up issues one or two of us have been having....

they both said that this issue only manifested its self after installing the recent update on software from the cortex site??? could this be our problem??? I was thinking my problem only started after i installed it i think?

Ive been in communiction with cortex usa and the seem to think the starting issue is all about how you press the power button they say you should keep your finger on it for 1 min this cant be right my opinion of cortex is useless

My DJ shop said today there are some improvements that can be downloaded--I said-but I cant see the point---im getting instant results on my searches.

Its like a Motor Car -if its running well-----------Leave well alone:D

John, dont waste time with Cortex--go to your DJ dealer with the problem and demand either a refund or a replacement NOW --DONT accept the argument that your unit has to go to Cortex for repair.

Under Sale of Goods Act this item is not fit for intended purpose===check with your local Trading Standards.

Boy, am I glad i didnt buy one direct from America :eek:

used mine last night first real whole gig...... cds left in the car job....

awesome so far so good not a single hitch sounded brilliant through the system no skips , jumps, wrong tags, power downs..... very happy this morning .... hope it continues.

again no problems last night holding down the power button does seem to do the trick when turning the unit on .... dont think it needs to be a minute .... about 10 seconds or so has been enough for me and its powered up first time 2 nights running. do do do doooo do...... im lovin it.

yes crazy was at a school parked right round the back everything covered up under their cctv .... dont worry wouldnt do that in a hotel or pub carpark lolol just wanted to know how id get on with no visual stimulus for picking tracks.... one wobble but no problems.

Finally after 10 days and 18 emails from cortex they have agreed there is a problem with my hdc1000 and are going to replace it but i have to send my one back then wait a week for them to send a replacement unit to me leaving me 10 days without a player not the best service in the world but at least i may get one that works. I must say it has put me off cortex for life but now ive paid for it have to go along with it should have waited for numark at least its a trusted name if nothing else

Have they given you a reason as to why there will be a week's delay in sending out the replacement?

Surely, they could have arranged the courier to collect/deliver on the same run, or at the very least, send you a replacement by return!

With all due respect did you or did you not buy this Cortex from a dealer?

If you did you go to the dealer NOT Cortex--I thought I made this clear a few days ago---please read my thread gain---you get the dealer to replace the Cortex IMMEDIATELY and let them argue with Cortex, YOU dont get involved.

If the dealer doesnt have one then he should lend you something else in the meantime free of charge so you can cover your gig-- Sale of Goods Act etc.

Or are we missing something here? is the dealer in the USA?

I brought the cortex by mail order from wales and i live in essex this is the reason for not going back to the dealer when i asked to deliver and collect at the same time they said they need to inspect the faulty one before sending out the new one all in all not a good service by cortex

Must admit this is why I use the local Disco shop mainly--might be a few bob more expensive but at least you can call in and sort things out and they have a reputation to think about.

Will lend/ hire temporary equipment etc.

I think Dave( Dragonfly) has a similar arrangement with East Midlands?
