Need advice on lighting

Hi I am looking for some new lights for my kids discos, want something light weight as im a feeble girlie, compact but powerful. Ideally to put on tripod so i can direct in different locations. sound to light.
Any ideas on good places to buy and at a resonable price ?

im not very good at technical stuff so heres my dumb blonde view on what i want. Somthing with a bit of a pattern, changes colour or has different colours in it. I have got a ???? light which has wording so can change for occasion, it is quite heavy but can be static, sound to light or spinning. Something else like this but with patterns which maybe the children can jump or or can spin around the walls. Budget not really got a price in mind but don't want to spend hundreds on one light. My last lot i bought as i had to buy for 3 rigs were cheap £25 each things, they are ok but not really powerful enough. something good quality middle of the rd price i supose.
Hope this makes sense. I do have some roller light things which i bought second hand off a dj friend,that i sit on top of my dj box, they are really powerful but can't be kept on too long as they will overheat, they really light up the front of a hall but not enough effect to use alone.

A couple of Mushrooms (http://www.terralec.co.uk/prod.asp?i=18061&1=BLOWSTAR_MUSHROOM_(AC135B)) at £49 each will give you 600 watts of output per light. Lots of coloured beams to keep the little kids happy.

the evls were/are british made i believe sorry if im wrong and ive heard the workmanship has seriously slipped on the datamoons know a few shops round me with many returns although still an awesome effect .... on that information when it came to new lighting i was advised to go for the evls.... although i didnt as they were at 350 quid each at the time.

I think the general concencus is that the Spins are of a higher quality then the Datamoons, more equal to Twister 4s.

To be honest, I've never seen any EVL lighting in the flesh so to speak, but I hear very good reports from other forums.

For the money, you could do a lot worse than one of these (http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_tomahawk.htm) same as the ACME Stormbird but 30% cheaper. Good coverage from one light, for small parties thats all you would need. 24v 250watt lamp gives good brightness. Sound to light.

Quite a few DJs have one of these in their various forms. You would have to change the plug for an IEC one though or use a shulko adapter.

I use one for smallish non-wedding discos as a centrepiece with a chameleon 4 either side of it. (80-120 people).

I would say the vango range from maplin prices at £59 - £69 each the vango diamond is the same as an old xtc fills a room nicely and wont break the bank. The swing isnt worth getting but the vango ark is also quite nice. I use several of them and found them very cheap for bulbs light and reliable (they only weigh 2.5 - 3.1 kilos each (depending on model)

these are really good cheap roomfillers, ive got one badged up as a chauvet gobosplash and it gets more "oohs" from punters than the isolution stuff.

Datamoons are better as for twister 4s i dont even think theyre on the same level as the spins. I think the Twister 4HPs are better!
