Hi all, bought two twin 15" bass skytec cabs for the cabs only, put class D speakers in them. The bass speakers were wired in series, the whole cab was rated @ 8ohms, can I change the wiring to parallel to take any strain of my amp. The subs are 350w 8ohm each Max 600w there are two in each cab plus mid horn and 4 tweeters. the amp being used is a maggregor 1000w.

Not sure that it will take the strain off your amp! If the ones you took out were 8ohms then in series they would be 16ohms - the higher the resistance the less strain on the amp.
They may of been wired this way to give a total impedance of 8 ohms with the horn and tweeters. Wiring in parallel would reduce the impedance to 4 ohms which would then be reduced further by the tops and tweeters down to a probable dangerous level for the amp.
I would put them back as they were.
Also note that the power will be shared equally between the speakers/horn/tweeters. If you are upgrading the bass speakers and pushing more power into the cabs, the horn and tweeters may not be man (or should I say person?) enough to cope with the extra power. IIRC the cabs were something like 500w peak and 250w RMS which was pretty poor for a dual 15" cab but was due to the low power handling capacity of the horn and tweeters (the pair of 15" Skytec speakers on their own are 150w RMS each - 300w in total - 600w peak)

wire the two new drivers in parrallel to bring the impedance down to 4 ohms then with the tweerers (and the crossover) in parralell off one of the drivers, there piezo tweeters so have i high impedance which means tthey wont make a difference to the overall impedance which will be 4 ohms, this way you will get the full power of your amp 500 rms per channel, each driver in each cab will be getting 250 watts rms hope this helps

the bass speakers that were in if they were wired in parralell would of been 4 ohms each

Hi, and thanks all for the replys, sorry didn't get back but been very busy.
new baby and all that.
So, I could wire the 2 bass drivers in parralel to get 4 ohms = 500w pc from amp, wire tweeters to the same, and same with horn?.
Not very good for someone whos just passed is C&G in Pat Testing (yes I did pass) :)
