Small powered speakers

OK, the upgrading continues (still sorting out VRX's and VR8's etc...).

I am now offering microphones for speaches and have some weddings booked later in the year with this package along with some with background music during the meal.

Now I could pop my M-Flex's on stands and place either side of the top table, but somehow I have a feeling that this wouldn't quite be the "look" most couples want!

So, I plan to purchase a smaller (as small as reasonably possible) set of speakers to standmount either side of the top table. It seems it might be easier to look at powered ones to save cables etc...

So what would you guys suggest. Obviously these won't be my main PA in any way shape or form and will get limitted use throughout the year. Don't want to spend a fortune, so budget would be as low as £100 if possible (so 2nd hand is an option), but they need to be able to cope with speach and maybe room capable of up to 100 for sit down meal?

alternatively, based on what I already have, please do think "outside the box"!

Passive, I would probably go for a pair of these (http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pa108_passive_fullrangebox.htm) and one of these (http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tamp_e400.htm) total cost with a couple of stand mounts about £175.

But, Personally I wouldn't even bother with a passive outfit for what you want, I would buy a pair of these (http://www.thomann.de/gb/search.html?sw=pa108a&gk=&bn=) costing about £180 including the stand mounts.

With the actives you can use just one for smaller venues, they will be okay for speeches/background music for upto 50-80 people depending on the venue, the pair will easily cover bigger events nicely. You can also use them with a subbass for your smaller discos put the low cut switch on (120hz) this gives the driver more midrange power as the subbass does the really hard work (look neater and would sound good too).

I suspect you will be surprised by the quality and sound from "The Box" speakers and as you can have them on a 30 day approval and with a 3 year guarantee it is a no brainer for me.

People get too obssessed with power, I can remember discos in the late 70s and early eighties that only had a 100 watt amp and a couple of speakers, one well known dj down here used a 100 watt marshall guitar combo amp/speaker for years.

Think you will find it difficult to find something durable and to cover the events you want though for a budget of £100 if buying new.

Also there is absolutely no way i am going to need these for anything more than the suggested jobs above, so not at all interested in being able to tie them in with my standard PA!

Crazy - still very very pleased with the JTS, how's yours going? Will probably need to buy another one for the speaches package I am doing, so if you don't like yours...

We used to use a peavey escort 2000 for this. You can pick them up cheap off ebay.

I use W-audio PSR8a's for this job... they are roughly 150w per cab and are a powered speaker so no messing with amps and things.... comes in at around £250 a pair brand new though so maybe a little out of budget...

Really nice sounding and you get speaker covers thrown in for the price too... can't go wrong :)
