Lots more Sunday weddings...is it just me?

Up until a couple of years ago, I would get a MAXIMUM of one booking each year for a Sunday wedding reception. These were often the day before a bank holiday Monday, so in effect is was like a Saturday...as people still had the next day to recover before going back to work.

Over the last couple of years, I've been getting a lot more wedding bookings on a Sunday...3 last year and 4 for this year so far (plus 2 more currently at the enquiry stage)...and not just for bank holiday weekends.

I love Sunday bookings, as it allows me to do 3 gigs in a weekend, but I'm trying to think of the reasons for this increase, especially at a time when (according to recent news reports) weddings are at an all time low.

Is it just me? or are the rest of you taking more bookings for Sunday weddings? if so, does anyone have any ideas why this could be?

Do the Registry Offices open on a Sunday or are these just Church Weddings? If Reg Office is closed on a Sunday then perhaps a shift to more church weddings this Year, hence Saturdays are filled up, so a Sunday is the next choice ?

Anyway, anyday would be fine with me to take a booking :D

i know that some of the hotels offer a cheaper rate for the sunday, not sure why and normally the bride and groom have been away to get married then just have the evening party for the rest of the family. :beer1:

Simple answer- cost- venues are cheaper on days other than Sat- I have had more Fri weddings this year than Sat wedings for the same reason.

People who book hotels for the wedding also usually book at least a bridal or honeymoon suite and often a number of other rooms for guests, too. Most hotels do more business over the week with travelling salespeople and business-people doing meetings and conferences so the weekends are actually most hotels' quiet time. As most people tend to book their weddings for a Saturday it makes sense for hotels to encourage Sunday weddings.

This may also help to explain why people are getting more Sunday weddings, the price of petrol and the trickle through to the cost of living is hammering most people's budgets. Given that weddings are about the most expensive thing you can do after buying a house many people will want to save where they can without cutting corners, per sé.

Funny this topic should come up. Angela & I were discussing this very thing with a client last Thursday (their wedding was on a Friday though)

Edit: Forgot to say, we are getting more Sunday weddings too (at this rate we'll have to stop doing kids parties!:banana: ).

They are open 24hrs Mon - Fri, till 10pm Sat and 4pm Sun.

So they may have their wedding on a sunday so all there workmates can go?

i am getting more weddings in the week though here have got 3 or 4 booked in on like mondays or thursdays.??? and school proms coming in on thursdays rather than fridays?

I too have seen a small increase in Sunday bookings but not huge. It does make sense to get married on a Sunday as lots of people DO work on a Saturday and Dannyboy is right about Tesco opening hours. I dont know if it is different is Scotland but in England big shops can only open for 6 hours maximum on a Sunday; so they close Saturday night do their 6 hours on Sunday and then open again on Monday morning.

The nearest one to Tranent (Musselburgh) (5.42 miles) shuts at 22:00 & Haddington shuts at 18:00, Dalkeith Hardengreen, however does appear to be 24/7 :P
