Speakers

Hey all,
I know this comes up time and time again but just to clarify...i think it would be useful to know what everyone thinks......

what are you ideas on good speakers. I would like some of the peavey UL series the 12inch top and 15/18 inch bottoms but i dont think i can afford them:( ....we just got some new peaveys at school and when i did a gig there with both them and my disco speakers they put mine to shame:bang:

Can anyone suggest some good/similar quality speakers and rough prices..new/second hand

Peavey are only £150 a pair of 15" st's and £100 a pair of 12" tops for em.
Shop around peavey are a lot cheaper than people think for a very good sound and reliability.

Depending on your budget, look at the Void range of products. Probrably the best sounding system you will ever hear / use IMHO.

Also what are better peavey/mackie/class D or is there little and down to personal preferance

Personal preference.

Having heard / used most products out there, I don't like Peavey, especially the Hi Sys 2's, which sound aweful IMO. The Mackie's do sound pretty sweet. I have not heard anything from Class D, but I believe they use piezo's, not compression drivers for top end, which doesn't give the best sound in the world.

Not all of them do.

Some have compression drivers in.

Just had a quick look on their site, they offer 1 product that uses a true compression driver, but they aren't too cheap.

Actually, in 'speaker stuff' there is a nice explination of the different parameters for drivers, useful for anyone wanting to upgrade drivers in their cabinets, this will help you find a product with a similar specification.

i used peavey for years they were great never let me down once amps or speakers.

wharfedale sound much better than peavey, especially the evp-x range and much cheaper too. ive actually got 2 sets for sale on djbids at the mo. ive just bought the mackies but not took em out on a job yet. soundcontrol seem to have sold out now but turnkey still had some this morning.

i use jbl eon 15g2 and carlsbro gamma subs so carnt recomend anything else
