whats your pet hate when doing a gig

I was doing a christening on sunday from 1.00pm in the afternoon till 11pm,
it was disco and karaoke, a lady who was a bit drunk came up and said she wanted to sing blar blar blar. So I said if you look in one of the books and write down your name and the code of song etc, I will get you up as soon as possible. Then she gave me lots of verbal saying I was the dj I should do that.
Then, when she did sing her request, she stopped half way through and said that song was the wrong version. I told her that karaoke tracks cannot sound the same as the original artist etc, then she kept coming up and saying she wanted to sing this and that and wanted to sing it now, and still did not write anything down.
when I put the disco on she came and asked for some 1960 music so I played some, and then she said I dont want this I want 60sI said thats what I was playing ( jimmy mack ) ,she then said no 60s You know blondie. I then said Blondie was 1970s that shut her up for a bit.
Then come finishing time she came over and said put some more music on, I said no, as I was only booked until 11.00.
Then she said I was crap etc etc, I nearly told her where to get off
the people who booked the party said they had a great time, it was a great party.
Anyone had this happen before? Or what's your pet hate?

1 till 11. That's 10 hours. I assume you got paid about £300 for that then. If you do gigs that long for that sort of money I would expect you to have the patience to deal with silly, drunken female punters.

well money and fair words you see i am not greedy there are alot of greedy ppl out there who are just in it for the money yes the money is nice but i do it mainly because i love mobile discos love lighting love music love the whole entertaining thing
but i would never work for free

but i would never work for freeNot sure which post this was replying to, but to suggest people (I presume that is what you meant by ppl - which has an entirely different meaning on this forum) are greedy for charging a higher fee is totally unfair: I presume you are not DJing full-time? (ie your only source of income).

me too or trying to ...... not sure its entirely possible as a sole trader though :D :D :D . Yes I charge a higher price than most in my area but then it is in context with the overheads for each show i do and the fact that i would like to contribute as much as possible to the lives of my two children and wife. there is more at stake for me than a couple of beers and a packet of pork scratchings .

Bare in mind no new Blondie tracks were released between Island of lost souls & Maria (you can't count solo efforts, that's like saying the Beatles have been releasing singles just because Macca has been) then 70s sums up most of their output.

Its easy to put various meanings to a post if you don't punctuate. This will lead to confusion and argument, when people put the wrong emphasis on what you are saying!

Mt pet hate at a gig is when you take a short notice due to other DJ not showing up ,forgot to book etc. And then while setting up getting taunts from croud because your late (having only been told of gig 60 minutes ago). The usual things like about time, who's e think e is then, and Oh dj's here at last.
And for the rest of the night thay all think you were original DJ who was late rather than a DJ who was told at 7:15 that he had a booking rushed to load drive 25 miles and turned up at 8pm at the venue got in gear and had sound on in 15 minutes and rest up 10 minutes later.

Sigh..... happens to me so often would be nice to be appreciated. :(

And I agree with you Dragonfly, im a sole trader who tries to make a living from DJ'ing with a family to support. We have to charge more, but I think for the service I offer compared to some of the local DJ,s my prices are more than fair. I seem to get repeat work a lot so some people are happy just have to attract more.

absolutely true most of my work this year is repeat and alot just phone up and want to book have seen me and what i do and i suppose as long as i dont say £5000 they are happy because they know exactly what they are getting. recently found out how much more im charging than the competition and was genuinly shocked....

but as you say its a fair price and the diary isnt empty.

Yeah I have experienced this several times and I must admit it puts me off accepting some emergency gigs. Also had experience of seeing why they have been let down i.e. the load is awkward, you have trouble getting paid, the audience are bad, the customer is a pain in the ass etc etc

my pet hate at a gig is when the person whos party it is gives you a song list to play all night and olny him/shes likes it and you play the song every one else play then he/she has a go at you so you have to give everyone a bloody crap night . oh my old pet hate when i used to use cds was you get asked for a song you say i cant find it in thehunders of cds so you i will find it latter for you 5 mintets latter they say play it next you say wait cant find it they go mad with you, you spent every minet lookin for it and beacuse of that you make it a crap night
