1) Earning the same money in one night as I used to earn in a whole WEEK from my daytime job.

2) Being responsible for getting a packed dance floor & making it a night which everyone enjoys.

3) Having someone request a song which by coincidence you've already cued up to play next, and being able to say to them "Ok - I'll play it next"...so when you really DO they think you are brilliant!

4) Being chatted up by nice females ;)

5) Free food & drink

I get a buzz out of filling a dancefloor, using good music. Simple as that really, money doesn't come into it for me

Yeah, I can appreciate that, but I choose not to do it for a living for a number of reasons. One of which is that I would undoubtedly lose at least some of my passion for it..

I think you'd be surprised.

I am very enthusiastic about the business after 23 years and still love entertaining, but then there have been times, just like any other jobs, where I've still done the job, but not felt overly enthusiastic.

I think Djing is one of those jobs you need to try full time before you can make a judgement. To be honest, I said the same thing before I went full time, but here I am as enthusiastic and passionate as ever.

I played a 21st on Saturday. Half way through the night this seriously delicious young lady comes up and asks for Fedde le Grand, so I turned to her and said, "Let me tell you a secret...". She looked at me, and in that split second, "put yer hands up..." pops out of the nearest speaker :D

well after 15 years of hard thumping music, meeting my wife, being paid well for a job i love doing, being able to have hada drink (when i wasn't working for myself) listening to some great tunes........I just love my job.....

At the start listening to other djs at weddings and thinking "you know I'm a good bit better than him and he's making money at it, I'll have a go." lol

A real passion for all types of music.

Getting people up dancing and when you know you've read the crowd just right when you cue the next tune, pull the fader across and get a cheer. :)

Not having to get up a 6:45 every morning to a monotoneus job.

And..

Friends saying it's not a real job, you need a 9 to 5.

Depends on which 9 to 5 job you may have - they all pay differently! Also, for that matter, don't the unsociable hours bother anyone? I mean, having to miss parties/weddings/nights out/match of the day?

I'd rather be playing the tunes at the party than attending it. Thats what got me into it in the first place.

If unsociable hours bothered you then dont be a dj. As for match of the day I make a point of missing it even if I am in!
