View Full Version : Stock phrases to deal with drunk / annoying punters

We've all suffered the abuse of a drunk (or just plain moronic) punter demanding "something we can dance to" (despite a full dance floor), or "what the **** are you playing this for", etc. Just wondering what stock phrases or strategies people have to deal with these?

Personally I try to be diplomatic but firm, but I do find it quite hard work and a bit of a distraction from the job at hand.

Actually I did lose my rag with someone once, after the third time he reached over and nudged the live deck (it was a 16th birthday with inadequate adult supervision).

Luckily he backed down a disappeared. Good job really - I'd be exactly no use in a fight!

"I accept requests, not demands"

Some people just don't go away, and if they are very persistant then I play the song they have been asking for, but I make it clear to everyone who has asked for it. What else can you do.

Ignore them and they'll go away eventually.

Some don't though...

If it's a woman, she'll grab you and say something like "Pleeeeaase, pleeease??! Come on, it's my favourite song, please play it?? I've just broke up with my boyfriend, and it will cheer me up - pleeeeeeeaaase??!"

And if it's a guy, depending on their personality, ignoring them is not wise as they may become increasingly aggressive..

Sometimes it's just a lose/lose situation :(

" get stuffed sonny ..... or I'll phone your mum"

since i adopted

" If you have any requests during the evening please come up and ask for them ..... unless its the cheeky girls ....... or my personal favourite play something good...... because then we realise I'm the only person here that thinks AC/DC are good"

Ive had no problems luckily.

"... So where do you work?..."

Punter "... I work for ----..."

"... OK, on Monday morning, how about if I get drunk, come to your work and tell you how badly you are doing your job and then how you should be doing it?.."

Sometime followed by:

[on microphone] "...Security to the disco please immediately..."
