Flight Cases

New lighting so I am thinking new shiney cases to put them in.

I am thinking also that building them myself, so wondered if anyone had any tips. I was considering buring the following (see pictures) and using plywood / hardboard (see I am not an avid DIYer, I mean the thin wood, not MDF!). Would I still need a piece of 1 x 1 in the corners to hold it all together?

Or, is there someone or somewhere I can get custom built cases for silly cheap money (meaning less than I can make them for myself).

Any hnits and tips on building cases would be apreciated.

In my opinion I would just buy ones that suit your lights.
I've spent time and effort building boxes to throw them away again as their just too heavy. I was a time served joiner and I would still rather buy boxes than make them. Sure they more expensive but they look better and last.
If you were to build I would say use 1/2 plywood and use the corners (brass) your have shown above, then finish with some carpet.

you can make them lite if you have the right stuff to do the cases with, I use a place in southend (Essex) called adam hall ltd get one of there catalouges and it's got all you need! no need for batton in the corners because the metalwork does the job for you! had really good results with the cases i made and so much cheeper!!!!

If your thinking of getting some flightcases for your lights i would go for something like swanflight or they do some cases on thommann which are supposed to be good.

however i would suggest....... staying away from Adda cases. I bought some and dropped one of my flightcases by accident didnt drop them from a high height. It broke a scanner mirror on one of my abstract lights. and damaged 2 internal colour wheels. on two lights. the lights cost £100 to have repaired. The Adda cases were supposed to protect them.

I still have them at the moment. but changing the flightcases for something better.

Iv made cases and they look big ang heavy!! their not strangly enough! Iv made them out of 17mm block board

Callum! thats not a case it's a house! mind you if it does what you want good on you for trying! I used 6mm laminated ply for my cases Bout £20 for 8 x 4 sheet + fittings my first set of cases i got from five star cases (2 x 1210 & Mixer case cost me £375 15 years ago and i gotta say apart from looking a bit dull there still good so i suppose you do get what you pay for!

I have made some out of 6mm ply, then fibre glassed the inside joints, they seem to take the bashing quite well

no dont do it. it will work out just as expensive if u take time into concideration aswell
