The Bar Manager from hell......??

Hello chaps,
Just thought that I'd share the experience of a gig I did on Saturday night... It was a gig a small cricket club about 7 miles from where I live and a referal from a girl at work, it was her aunts 50th birthday..... Anyway, we get to the venue, unload the gear and get set up, took us about an hour and 15 minutes in total. The guests arrive, we have a great gig, finish at midnight to applause and thanks from the crowd. A quick ten minute breather and we start to break down the gear and get packing. After about 20 minutes , the bar manager starts ranting and raving at us about how we should have been packed up and long gone by now. I tried to explain what was involved in the process but he insisted that in 35 years of bar management he'd never seen anything like and started ranting and swearing at us. Needless to say I did everthing I could to calm the bloke down but when that failed, I made sure that things were packed up as quickly as possible.... He continued to rant and rave and the F word was used on several occassions.... The client was still at the venue at this point and couldn't beleive what they were hearing. They stated that they would never use the venue again....
I will be writing to the management of the said establishment to complain about his behaviour and state the fact that I will never work at their venue again.
Oh yeah, this chap was at least 70 years old to........:eek:

I had a similar experience a while back. After the managers rant I made a point of taking twice as long to pack up. It was quite fun to watch his face as I carried the cables out to the van one at a time.

Its because they want to go home---if he had a brain he would have offered to help--which does sometimes happen and speeds things up.

I was clearing out of a Tennis club in Northampton and the bar staff just sat and watched me trundle all my stuff out--I did say if you give me a hand you will get home quicker--didint seem to register:D

Well ats the end of the day he aint gonna get much pople hiring the hall then as word of mouth goes around fast. I always find the bar staff better behaved than the managment. Had a gig the smae relly managment Fing and all that then a guy from the bar came over and offerd to give me a hand. Said no thanks its ok mate his boss came over and started on him " What you helping that **** for lol i just looked at him and laffed.

Just to restore the balance , the catering staff helped me carry my gear in on Friday- probably thought I couldn't manage!

Have meet the Mrs jobsworth council employee of the year at a council hall that regularly got hired out. 2 years ago

She was trying to get the guests to leave by 11.15pm but they had hired the hall to 12am she shut off all the power of to the hall including where the disco. To say the least I had a few choice words with her. The hirer was going out of her mind as was the mobile bar and all the 150 + guests, she turned all power back on and went off in a huff.

Much to the amazement of the party hirer & Guests, next thing there was the police with her, in which they promptly told me to shut down I obliged apologising to the guests I explained to the police that the venue had been hired till 12am and that was when I was paid till and the disco hirer backed me up with the paperwork.

The police then told the Mrs jobsworth to backdown or be done for wasting police time and to do her job properly, I restarted again obviously I was to wind down at 11.45pm as that I may pack up.

The Mrs jobsworth sat there at 12.25am in disgust toe and finger tapping waiting for me to get the last of my bits out. I did as the hirer told me to do IT VERY SLOWLY. (small print on the paperwork stated that All persons were to have left by 12.30am) including me.

The hirer and me laughed ourselves silly on the phone next day I have done all there bookings ever since. The Mrs Jobsworth has been replaced

Sounds a bit like my experience at the golf club and rugby club in Basingstoke which I mentioned on here the other day.
At the end of the day, I don't care who it is, NO'ONE talks to me like a piece of the proverbial and I would've just taken longer to pack up on purpose if he had sworn at me etc etc...Then, when I was just getting the last of the equipment out and into the van, I would've had a quiet little word in his ear as they say and let him know that if he ever spoke to me like that again, well...you know the rest.

I think we all have had this experience, but what would happen if you take out some equipment to your van and they lock up before you have finished? Can we break in? perhaps not but what could we do.

Call the police and report a theft of equipment would be the best way.
