1 go over and ask for some requests just to see what equipment he has

2 go over and introduce yourself and tell them you are a dj just to see what equipment he has

3 critisize his music by saying i wouldnt of played that i would of played

4 look around the room to see what skirt is in the room because u need to pull

5 sit looking miserable as its a saturday night and you are :Censored: off because you are not djing

6 say sod the dj and get :Censored:

forget the dj lets get drunk. You have a night off from djing why not have a good time while it lasts.

If you say oh your a dj......... some djs will probably speak to you as though theyre not interested and probably get all defensive about it. you do get them im sorry to say.

But i dont even say nothing to them. I just enjoy myself.

If i know the dj well enough i will go and talk to him at sometime during the night. for a few minutes and then let him get on with his job.

i agree about the swapping of business cards. but i will only do it if i know the dj to begin with. Now in my area there is a limited number of djs that i would trust..... One of my trusted contacts who is one of my friends is actually on here. (Hello to Simon from soundscapes) :D

Read it & take note, especially points 14, 16, 19, 23 & 27, which seem to be being ignored quite a bit lately.

What isn't (acceptable), is swearing (including words that the auto censor picks out, self edited with asterisks but with the first & last letter left in) just use the :Censored: , it's in the smilies list if you look hard enough.

Having done a lot of gigs and been dealt with the "Hi mate, I'm a DJ too" lines, I wouldn't say anything at all because I know how annoying it is. If I was a mechanic for example, I wouldn't walk into a garage on my day off and say to the guy working under the car, "Hi mate, I'm a mechanic too!" or stuff like that.

If it was my night off then it would stay my night off and I would just enjoy it.

Hopefully I would be restrained enough to only look at his gear, and also to see if could learn something from him/her.

But it is possible that I may fail in this and do some of the other things mentioned.

If he/she was any good, I'd introduce myself with a handshake and offer a card exchange along the lines of 'I like you and if I ever get any enquiries that I can't handle myself, I'd feel comfortable passing them your way'.

If not, smirk to myself and log the experience for later use when a potential customer says 'I can get XYZ disco for £80'.

Some of the venues I supply to have several rooms and the client always gets the choice whether they want to use us or not, so ocassionally there's a different DJ and I always make the effort if I have time and I'm not intruding, to go and say hello.

For me, it's all about networking.

Most events I do have 2 or 3 rooms and there is always another DJ playing. If I dont know him I will always go over an introduce myself. If he asks for a card I will give it to him. I check out his gear and if he has something I am interested in I will ask him how it has been working out for him. I know 90% of the DJ's here in my area. So most will come over to chat a bit during the night or I will go over to chat with them. Just becuase we are in the same business doesn't mean we cant be friends or need to be enemies. Even though their are some who feel that way. I am always looking for another Dj who I can refer when I am booked up. The first meeting will always make my decision about them being a back up DJ.

also worth remembering guys, before using offensive language that if your user name is your trading name and the public key it in as a search, maybe looking for your website, google brings up these threads. Not really something you want your potential customers to read.
