Not really a technical help question as such, but.......

Have any of you had to connect an ipod to your mixer?
We had a little fashion show at school that the kids organised and ran, they turned up with a couple of ipods and I connected them (headphone out) to a line in on the mixer. Even with the ipod at full volume there was hardly any sound, I had to crank the mixer right up. The sound was rubbish.
Could it just have been poorly encoded tracks or is the output of an ipod very low?

I've connected my own Archos player and similar before with no problem:confused:

I have had to connect up to 5 ipods at a disco I did for some french students.
The music sounded ok although some tracks were quieter than others. I would look at your mini jack cable could be faulty?

Ive had an Ipod through my system sounded fine infact I was amazed at the quality that came through.

I've connected portable CD/minidisc/MP3 players before, and they are all line volume - no problems..

Thanks for the replies. As I said I've used other devices before without problem, just never an ipod!:eek:
The cable was new and OK, so I guess it was whatever was on the ipod.:confused:
Just wondered if there were anything 'odd' about the ipod output, knowing how Apple don't do standards:D (well, only their own!)

I hook up Ipods all the time. I never had a problem with the volume. Sometime the qualitiy is low but thats about it. I use an Ipod 100gb for music back up in case my PC ever crapped out on me. Both my kids have Sony PSP's and they hook them up all the time and no problems either. I would try another cable and see if that was the problem.

You could try an headphone amp.
I've always thought of it but never actually done it.

That (is it Numark?) mixer jobbie that takes 2 iPods would be a more elegant solution. Can't think of anything worse than trying to use 2 of those fiddly little efforts:eek:

I've connected my own Archos player and similar before with no problem:confused:If the line input is like that, try connecting to the phono input instead. (Bring the volume up from nothing very gently when you do!)

No, no, you can't do that! Connecting a line-level device to a phono input is a definite no-no, the phono input uses alternating voltage whereas the line inputs use alternating current. You will most likely damage the phono input.

You will most likely damage the phono input.Ah, that'd explain why, due to the same problem of low sound when into the line input, I have run my laptop into the phono inputs of the mixer for the last year without any problems, adjusting the input / output levels with Windows volume and gain control on the mixer.

I ran my laptop via the phono once - worst sound possible.

Re the ipods, yes at xmas i played a certain couplew of songs via my ipod into the mixer again it was the same poor low sound, cable is fine as i use the same cable for my laptop to mixer, and the ipod is also fine as I have used it on computer speakers no problem (at full blast)
