I'd say that's a good deal. My £5 million PLI costs £165 a year.

Yes but If im right in thinking MU dont cover your vehicle its only PLI. Where as Music Guard policy includes PLI and vehicle cover.

Are you sure you are covered fully as a Mobile DJ and Lighting engineer and I dont mean what someone told you over the phone.

Unless recorded the conversation is meaningless generally.

Reading this "definition" which is rather vague id say you have no chance of being covered as a lighting engineer at all.

I would get it in writing from the MU insurance company.

For a long time I have been unsure whether DJs are covered as Musicians although plenty of people "say" they are covered.

If its not in writing ---forget it---if it is--- post it up on here

Please note the £15000 is TURNOVER not net profit. (and Danno is with NADJ)

This is still a grey area for me though. So basically I pay £100 a year for 10 million pli with MU which doesnt cover my vehicle, I then need to pay another £175 a year with Music Guard to cover my equipment & van plus I get 1 million pli thrown in so now I have 11 million pli????? :bang:

You basically need three different insurances:

Public Liability : This covers you in the event of someone claiming against you due to an injury caused by you, or you equipment.
Kit Insurance : Covers your equipment against loss or accidental damage(Some will cover your equipment in your vehicle.
Car/Van Insurance that declares its use for commercial purposes, and states that you are a DJ

In effect you haven't got £11million cover, as you can't claim on two policies for the same incident.

At the moment NADJ can give you £10million cover until 31/7/07 for £50 + membership fee of £55 - this also includes a free subscripion to Promobile Magazine (worth £12 p.a) and access to a local branch for networking with like-minded professionals

Having spent 20 years plus in the insurance industry, I can assure you that varying the truth on an insurance application is exactly the excuse any insurance company will be looking for to get out of paying a claim. It just isn't worth it.
