Hi Guys

Im looking to purchase a pa system for my main rig and was looking at the Class D speakers here:

Has anyone got this set up and what is your opinion on these speakers?

I have heard nothing but good things about class -d from members on here so seems good to me?

Not very good spl though, mind you a bargain for the money.

For what it's worth, I've got a pair of Class-D's, and they're very good for the money. CD158-1 I think (without looking) - the ones with the horn tweeter.

Sorry Im a bit rubbish when it comes to speakers. is the SPl bad then? My speakers at the moment are RCF Art 300 but I need to go bigger as some of my gigs coming up require more volume. Any ideas?

Yeah, add some subs.

Without wishing to be rude to Class D owners, a move from RCF to Class D is a backwards move and not an upgrade.

The ART300s are a fantastic cab, but need subs for a bit more reinforcement.

Have a look round for RCF stuff 'cos it will be balanced with your system.

SPL = Sound pressure level and generally the higher the SPL, the more efficient and louder the speaker will go.

seconded for the RCFs- weve got some 312s and think they are great.
what about the mackies that have been discussed to death over the last few days? £300 for a pair.

That system is OK, we have both those tops, and those bins, i think we bought seperatly though. We've now also got some CD158-1s aswell, and the stack together is an excellent system. I have yet to find faults with it, and we push it hard with alot of dance. Never had it at full volume yet.

if your looking for some quality why not take a look at the Void Basys system that is advertised on DJ Bids this system is very good and ma well be worth you getting a demo of. Just depends on ya budget.

Just for reference an spl of 95 spl and below is considered a bit low, a good spl is 97 or above. Peaveys are for example 97 - 98spl. That is what I have found out anyway. Skytec 15" cabs are spl 94db with peavey being 98db spl.
In a lot of ways its a way of checking the quality of the speaker.

if your looking for some quality why not take a look at the Void Basys system that is advertised on DJ Bids this system is very good and ma well be worth you getting a demo of. Just depends on ya budget.

Or just buy 8 class-D bass bins and 10 Class-D tops for the equivelent price :D :D :D :D

Thats right. :D

Theres no way I could justify paying that kinda money for the Void system as I only DJ part time, unless I was earning £500 a gig. :o

I'd like to see any DJ earn £500 a gig , people just don't pay that kind of money round here for a disco.

And for the Record im only Part time and i've paid for it out of my business fundings.

Thats good. But personally I dont do enough gigs a year at the moment to spend that sort of money and dont think I would want to really.

Don't forget that the system shown runs at 8ohms, and may not get enough power out of your amp. For that reason, I got two pairs of 215's from
Class-D, and boy can they shift some serious air with eight 15" speakers running together! They seem to run better driven hard too, although that could be the novelty of my first 1.5Kw PA!

Seriously, if you can get to the Class-d nutters, go see them. They will demo anything to your hearts content, and are lovely folk. If you have £2500 to spare, the system for that is awesome!
