This isn't a joke....

It's installed all over the US, and was released in the UK last Monday. I've got a couple of friends who have just got it installed, the connection speed isn't as great as you might think, but it definitely works!

I did but somehow that annoying good for nothing company ''AOL!'' came inside my head. Aol is a total pain in the bum for a few friends of mine. Nothing but problems with connections and confused definitions with nortan anti-virus! Dont get me started with Nortan pleaseeeeeeeeeee :D

Yes, I have similar experience with AOL.

Talking of which, I have a friend who has been with them for 3 years, and just recently had to re-format her computer. She couldn't find her AOL CD, so phoned them up, and they said they would send one out. Several days later, she phoned again, and they said they were sorry, but they hadn't sent it yet, and would make sure it was sent out this time. Days later, still nothing, so I told her to phone up and ask for her MAC Code (Migration Authentication or something), which allows her to switch to another provider with minimum of downtime. They refused this, saying that she was under contract, and that it would cost her £200 to get the code. She told them that she was not under contract, as you are only contracted for the first 12 months when you sign up with them, and it has been a couple of years since that 12 moths expired. They then explained that she had agreed to a new contract last year, when she phoned up trying to cancel (she was paying £35 a month, and obviously could have got it a lot cheaper elsewhere), but agreed to continue with AOL at a better monthly rate.
Now, as far as I know, you can't agree to a legally binding contract over the phone, and she is certain that they didn't even mention it, never mind her approving it! She then told them she would like to cancel, and they said if she tried to cancel, they would take a payment of £200 from her card. At the moment, she has contacted her credit card provider to block any payments to AOL, and is without the internet in the meantime.

Oh, and the AOL CD never arrived :)

I cannot beleive they also want to take money from her account aswell!

Looks to me a court case could be issued here or.. as i would preffer.. they could be reffered to watchdog. Wouldn't that be embarrasing for them! Always is :D

New OFCOM regulations mean that broadband companies MUST supply a MAC code on request, free of charge, or risk a fine of up to 10% of their annual turnover.

For AOL I imagine that's quite a hefty sum, so the very mention of it should get your friend her MAC code!

Refering to my previous post....Any Old Lies... they just seem to make stuff up, not appearing to have a clue about regulations or even technical details.
