The copied CD's are as good as useless I'm afraid mate - get a refund!

I bought a load of Cd's on e-bay - really wanted the cases, these are good - items were sold as 'mosly originals'....yeah right :(
I am now stuck with about 200 CD's that are copied...
I bought these hoping to boost the collection i've already got....wrong :( most of them copied, not sure if i can play these as they are copied.
As i'm new to this game any advise would be helpful.

Legally, no, you can't use copied CDs.

As Beerfunk says, ask for a refund and if they say no, then threaten to report them to Ebay or the licensing authorities.

The copied ones are illegal, and so using them would mean breaching the law.

Surely there is something that "can be done to the seller" from eBay?

Working on the average price of legal downloads, I find it hard to believe someone would pay more to download than they intended to sell them for, and also I'm sure that even if you have downloaded and paid for them, that you don't have the right to re-sell them.

send them back to the pira... seller, with no advance warning but just put a first class stamp on it.

The bast....seller gets a card through his door from the post office saying "please come and collect parcel with unsufficient postage on it"

The gi...seller will have to pay the postage (are'nt CDs heavy) and an admin charge, before the post office will let him open the parcel.

Include an eye-patch and a jolly-roger inside, especially if they're heavy...

(ps: if, a few days later, you get a postcard from your postman mentioning a parcel with insufficient postage is waiting for you...don't !!!)

The seller has now stated that due to his every increasing collection of CD's he compressed his collection onto a few CD's so to carry less weight to a gig.
That i can agree with to a point - and therefore these are originals but as i don't own the originals i therefore feel i cannot play these and if that was the case why do i now have the 'Now from 45 to 60' on copy format...
If a DJ out here has that than please tell...do you really copy CD's to leave the originals at home only to play copies at gigs.....i think not.

I am really thinking of taking this all the way no matter what....the atitude of the seller is really sarting to :Censored: me off.

Or do I quit to save grace and rating's.....

That is not the point and well he knows it.

Perhaps that would make life easier for him, but the point is, is that you don't then go and sell the copied CDs to someone else.

Don't take no for an answer. Ask for a full refund. He hasn't got a leg to stand on and he knows that.

Advise him that copied CDs are infringing items under eBay's policy and that if he doesn't refund you he will be reported and, in all likelihood, have his account removed along with possible involvement of the authorities, that simple.

I had this same argument with some guy (maybe the same guy) on eBay - I sent him a note pointing out that selling CDs that he had ripped to MP3 was actually illegal as he would also have to delete the MP3, which he clearly wasn't doing. He basically told me where I could go, and told me that my behaviour wasn't appropriate for a professional DJ (which he claimed to be)... of all the cheek!

bring the cds's across the bridge to hull and sell em at our market on a wednesday. Trading standards have admitted the problem is too big for them to stop so they are no longer taking action (this was actually reported in our local paper !). You wont get much for them though as you will face tough competition from the 22 other stalls selling pirate cds (number i counted last week) and the mp3 sellers who will sell you mastermix classic cuts 1-100 on dvd for £5.

mastermix are already aware of the situation. its just frustrating to have trading standards announce publicly that they cant do anything about it. its not just mm stuff, you can buy a dvd each week with every new release single and album including dmc / mm / cd pool for £5 !

I've checked the posts - twice - and am now sitting on the fence.

This seller has now stated these are 'legal down loads' of which I have no proof only his word.
Question - 'Are you within your rights to sell these on?'

Is this correct?

Just to add a little justice on Tonys' side... I myself personally despise some people on ebay and find that there are some very arragant and rude sellers to try and ask questions to and approach. Personally i think the police should be more involved in ebay as people get away with too much criminal activity!! :bang: :bang: :bang:

I purchased an upgrade to our TomTom software which was allegedly genuine on eBay and when I got it the CD was obviously a fake.

I reported it to eBay and opened a dispute with PayPal and I had my money refunded and the sellers account was closed.

Thought i would get back to you on this..........I got a refund.......all of it!!:)

I have not heard from e-bay / pay pal for sometime and really gave up on buying stuff from them....but with Christmas around the corner my MD loves buying from e-bay.
We were after a air hockey game for the youngest so found what we wanted paid for it and found we had credit in our account.....traced it back to the CD's....so my faith in e-bay is a little more restored.....

He's still trading but i've got my money back...........

And i've still got a load of copied CD's that he's never asked for back......what should i do with these?

Do you grow stuff in your garden? CDs make great bird scarers. Just dangle them on a bit of string.

Alternatively they make good coasters, 'angel eyes' for car headlamps, funky 'switchplates' for kids bedroom lightswitches, hey you could even chop them up into little squares and make your own mirrorballs!
