Hi all, I started up again in Jan, after finishing M DJing nearly 18 yrs ago and I have found that it doesn't, ( to a degree) matter wheather you advertise or not. I have done around 20 gigs since Jan and already booked up till new year. Around 10 of the bookings actualy gave me extra money at the end of the night. Did 2 yesterday one in afternoon for Kids egg race then packed away to do a 80s / Birthday in york. Wish I had work on like that all the time, very tiring though. Anybody else got any thoughts on advertising and is it really cost effective Ie, the big yellow book, OK the free inserts are fine but if your good at what you do, why need to advertise?

Hi Steve
I'm starting out after a 20 odd year gap, and in a new area, so I'm having to do some advertising initially. I agree though, when i was djing reviously i never advertised and always had work. Finding it hard to drum up business at the moment, got 3 gigs booked, first this saturday.

I have to say im really scaling advertising down as of now as I don't feel I need it as much I will be soley internet based by next year but all of my may bookings and 3 of my june are word of mouth I relocated 2.5 years ago so needed to get my name around an on things which seems to be a success.

I dont do much advertising as dont have much money to do it. But i'm always getting phone calls. I have free ad in yellow pages , yell.com , and on just about every internet directory lol. Alot of work comes from clients that have used us before and also the good old word of mouth.
