dB Technologies Sub12 and Sub05

Hi there,

I'm currently using a Kam Sub15A as my active sub which is OK but I find it a bit too big and a LOT too heavy (70kg). Given that I very rarely use the built-in amps for the top speakers (I've got active tops too) I'm thinking about changing it for something smaller and lighter, but I'd like to keep the same (or better!) level of bass output if possible.

I've been looking at the dB Technologies Sub12 (12") and Sub05 (15" - despite the name). Both look OK specs-wise, but has anyone had any experience of either? Are they good and loud, low, and reasonably easy to move around? Is there anything else I should consider for the same sort of money?

I had a SUB12, didn't like it, it wasn't punchy enough. I sold it and bought one of these DB tech Opera 41.15 (http://www.thomann.de/gb/db_technologies_opera_4115.htm), tried it a few times and then bought another. For larger gigs I take both, but mainly I just use the one with a pair of SRM350 Mackies.

Only 24kgs too.

i have the carlsbro 600w powered sub but there is a db sub from thomman thats not to heavy and is 800w rms and one of the guys form sounds live in newcastle

Personally I would rather have my two 41.15s, they are lighter and more versatile as they can be used individually or as a pair. For a really great sound and loads of bass, 800 watt rms power but also acoustically coupled put the 2 together under your deckstand, with the tops on tripods or for less bass but a larger looking outfit the use one each side of your outfit with the tops above them.

Still, each to their own.

I like the look of the 41.15s. Feather light (compared to my Kam monster) and the perfect size to fit under a deck stand. Plus they're cheaper than the others I was looking at - bargain!

It looks like they're an older range than the Sub12, Sub05, and Sub15 but I don't suppose that really matters. Probably explains why they're cheaper.

How do you find the sound from the 41.15 - good and deep/loud?

I like the idea of using two for larger venues as well, that would fit the way I work quite nicely.

The 41.15s fit perfectly under a ultimax deckstand, I fit one under the deckstand with 600mm sides and the pair together under the stand when using the 1200mm sides.

The sound from one is good, the sound from two acoustically coupled is fantastic.

If I am using the one I use a pair of 200watt rms SRM350 Mackies giving me a total of 800 watt rms and I drive the Mackies from the 'above 120hz' output on the 41.15s.

When using the two 41.15s under the deckstand I use a couple of 400 watt rms SRM450 Mackies as the tops (giving me 1600 watt rms), again driven from the 'above 120Hz' output on the subs.

Sound is personal, but I do get a lot of favourable comments about the quality of the sound from my disco.

Just to follow up on this, I bought a 41.15 from Thomann. I haven't had a chance to use it for real yet, but it sounds pretty good in my garage!
