Remote Control Mains Plug Adaptors

I've found these and bought a pack - the bad news is that you have to go to M*plins to get 'em, but go in the week and no-one will know it was you... :sick:

On their website it's listed as 2 per pack, in the store you get 4 and a remote controller for 20 quid.

You have to open each one up, set up a few dip switches to assign them to a common 'house' code so you don't get interference from other remote systems, or if you are using more than one set... assign each one as A, B, C or D, insert battery into the remote and that's it!

Plug each one into the mains socket --- they will go side-by-side on a switched extension but NOT on a non-switched, they are 2.5 inches wide --- plug your lights (or whatever) into the adaptors and hey presto! Remote control of your lights (or whatever) :D

Hiya Pagan,

Interesting idea, but I prefer to have a flight-cased light controller sitting on my amp, which gives me complete control of all my lights without having to worry about where I put the remote...it's bad enough with my TV remote at home!

I have a couple of these and depending on the venue I'll put up a couple of basic lighting stands in the corners with sound-to-light lasers on or sometimes in a large venue a couple of sound-to-light 4-way spots. Really beefs up the effect as everything isn't coming from "the front".

I second that - I've used them to run a couple of effects in the far corners of a venue. Very nice effect, especially as you can control them all from one place. In fact at one stage during a gig where I did this I wandered outside and was controlling the lights from out there! Pointless, but fun :)

I'd be slightly worried about them losing 'contact' or power if you know what I mean?

Not really. I guess if the battery is going in the remote... but then I wouldn't put anything too important on them just supplementary lighting.

Actually, there are quite a few that use just one data cable and the IECs are plugged into the socket on the bar....so you don't get 6 IECs running down your stand.

You wouldn't need 6 IEC cables....you need one dmx cable.

It's like the show director, except it doesn't have it's own on/off switch panel, you use a dmx controller to do it. But it means if you have other DMX effects, and some non-dmx effects, you can program in "when this does that, light 1 on, when this doesn't do this light 1 off" etc
