Doing an angagement do tomorrow, (sat), is there any set pattern I don't know about, My engagement was along time ago and a blur, :eek: :beer1: marriage didn't last much longer either!!. Any help or advice greatfully received.

Pretty much the same format as most parties to be honest.

Ask them if there's any cake cutting or speeches to be held and you may want to play a special song for the people getting engaged, if they have one.

(And always make sure you tell them to bok the disco early for the wedding :D )

Thanks for the support guys, let you know how it goes. Just starting out again and turned down 4 gigs in 7 days because of work commitments, doh, and got 2 pending for may.
First one in ages, lots of possible leads to future gigs, no pressure then!!!!!.

start of by getting the happy couple to stand up make themselves look lovey dovey and play congratulations by cliff richard.the rest of the night should be treated just like any other party.
Youve got to make the happy couple look special to everyone in a nice way as its there party afterall.

Again Thanks alot for all the advice guys.
I did this for a fellow DJ who was doing a huge wedding in the same hotel, about 300 guests!. So didn't have any info on the couple in question. Just to go off the subject slightly I have info sheets etc for clients and gigs booked directly.
Expecting a youngish couple with the safety of family to ensure it wasn't too bingy bingy thump thump all night. Was geared up to give them some club / dance type stuff then take them back a bit 80's, 70's, 60's and rock n roll for the older members of the audience.
The room was very nice, rectangular and I was in the middle on the right, (not the best), room held about 100.
Set rig up with reduced lights, as it would have been too much, just 2 vasto's 2 mini strobes, small crab laser one white pin spot and a samurai in the middle.
The couple arrived and introduced themselves, (not young!, mid 30's), I introduced myself and chatted briefly trying to get as much info as I could. They like the beatles, elvis and the carpenters. No carpenters, :eek: but shouldn't be too bad. The average age of the guests was 40+. Had background music on til 8.30 then formally opened proceedings with usual intro and welcome to couple and guests. Music not on too loud some 70's disco, asked after 10 minutes to turn it down a bit!,:zip: no probs. Had about 30 people in by this time, about 6 dancing. Buffet at 9.15 place filling up, all of 50 in there!. Had Frank Sinatra on for the buffet, numerous people getting up and dancing during the buffet!:confused: . After the buffet, got the couple up to say a few words, she says "it's time to party", so i cranked it up and played as per brief. Did a few funnys, got some gossip on the couple and used blind date tune as background tune, :cool: went down well. Got a few requests coming in, and managed to oblige. End of the night the couple requested an info pack and provisionally booked me for the wedding July 12th 2008, at the same hotel,:D should give me time to compile some Carpenters stuff etc!!. All in all a good night, an easy intro back for me into the gig world.

Nice one Mike, I don't have much by the Carpenters either.. the only one I can think of which is 'dancey' is 'Please Mr Postman' (re-juvenated by Ant & Dec :))

sounds like you had a good night,you must have been good for the couple to come and ask you to play at there wedding.this kind of thing does your confidence the world of good.

Yeah, 'Top of the World' and 'Please, Mr Postman' are about the only danceable Carpenters songs.

...really only as background music, though it does have a good build it drops back to mellow for the last 30-40 seconds.
