Dj Software....which one

Hey all,

Its been asked over and over again but having searched the site i cant find exactly what i'm looking for.

I just need any suggestions on a software i can use to play songs from. Much like the way itunes has a party shuffle that you can cue a list of songs for.

Simple!!!

Virtual DJ is probably your best bet, as it's easy and simple to use. However you'll find that most DJ packages will allow you to cue up a list of songs, and then walk away.

I personally use Tracktor.

i agree vertual dj is great or theres sam party dj but less complex tractor is what a lot of dj use but if you want to be really creative with your work then go for ablton live its live remixing on the fly

Theres was an FAQ on here about dj software, but when i try to get to it i get internal server error.

I use Virtual DJ with the Hercules Mk2 controller. Possibly not the most professional looking thing in the world but the functionality's fantastic. Especially when you consider that you can buy the controller AND Virtual DJ for about £140!

Actually I meant the controller, but you're right the default skin looks a bit "Fisher Price". I've changed it to a much better looking one, with better functionality.

There are. The one that comes with the console is V3 "console edition", whereas the latest is V4, but V3 has so much functionality in it already it's hard to justify upgrading.

i like pcdj Red beacuse you can create a playlist so you and it mixers itself in so like you have time to go tolit and they have a find so you just tipe a song and it cums up press load on ur controal panel then play and if you use a external controller then its just like ur twin cd deck this is very good

well cj you can do all the stuff you mentioned on vertual dj and shed loads more auto mix auto dj its got a 12 channel sampler on it for adding samples from your database and samples can be beat matched with the song playing and loads of effects and you can mix videos and your not just stuck with the red pcdj on the screen you can have your screen looking like a set of pioneer cdjs or a tascam or if you can programme you can make your own skin

PCDJ FX VRM can be skinned also, although there isn't a s much choice as VDJ.

I must admit, I downloaded and tried a load of skins for VDJ and then stuck with the original! :o

The reason i say that and that version 3 is allot cheaper these days is that from version 4 onwards it is a whole new audio engine and a hell of allot more stable!

The reason V4 came out was from heavy investment from VDJ, Numark and others (hence Numark Cue being exactly the same as VDJ)....

In effect some things may be very similar between version 3 and version 4 onwards but they are leagues apart! I should know i've had the software since V3... Play a track in V3 then on V4 and you can really hear the difference!

Also if your going for VDJ DONT get the hercules (which loks like something Tomy made for kids!) get something along the lines of a Dac3 - which loks a hell of allot more professional AND has additional functions!

Is this another Vista problem or are you running xp.

I had been using FX for 4 years and got the occasional problem, but with the new laptop, I was getting around 15 drop outs per gig.

The PC was optimised for music playback and had nothing else on it.

Sorry, how do you mean drop outs?

I.E. The music cutting out for 0.5s of a song (like the comp was stuttering)

I trialed PCDJ FX before, and I had similar problems - crashing/pausing, sound glitches... I bought a 2nd hand copy of PCDJ Red and it's rock solid! ;)

You don't have to apologise about not having problems where others have! :)

You would probably lose quite a lot of features moving back to Red. My version doesn't have EQ's, loops and so on, it's pretty basic. I haven't used it live, I just mess about on it in my own time. I would feel confident using it at a gig though, it's there for an emergency I suppose! :cool:

Top answer, as I don't use the loop or the EQ (as EQ is done of my mixer) seem that I prob wouldn't lose a lot.

No, not stuttering.

Imagine if you were using a mute button and pushed it for half a second or so during a song. That's what was happening.

Master tempo and the search facility is much better on the VRM versions of PCDJ which is why I stuck with it.

I started with the original PCDJ Red 5.2 and never had any problems with it at all.

The only feature I really use is the Automix.

I am just so used to how FX is set out, not used any others so I am a little naive on change.

Fair point about the controller. I originally bought it as a toy thinking I'd buy a "real" controller later but it's actually surprisingly good to use. Certainly a good intro to PC DJing without shelling out loads of cash.

Well - nice of you all to suggest packages that do this, that and the other - but the guy asked for simplicity, not loops, EQ, etc, so PCDJ Red is easy and fuss free.

Served me well now for ages.

YES!!!!

I used to use V3 and never had problems either but it was very resource hungry.... V4 is allot better! Once you upgrade you'll wonder why you waited so long.

And as it installs as a separate program you can run V3 and V4 side by side.... just to see for yourself the difference in sound. :D
