Why??

Got to rebuild my spare speakers cabs (Ohms rw6's) as they made them from cheap nasty chipboard which is breaking up on the front edge, anyway why do the cabs have egg box wadding in them? when most cabs I seen dont, suley this would effect the sound as it would deaden the bass, as they not the most bassie speakers, hence they are only spare now.

It is to improve the sound by dampening the internal "echo" of the speaker box. Sound reflects off flat surfaces and can give speakers a "boomy" sound so baffles are used to help prevent it.

so if you take the wadding out itwill give more bass?

I have known in the past of people using eggboxes for sound-proofing.
If it's bass reflex I'd imagine it's so all the bas returns through the port.

The foam / lining is used to prevent standing waves. It also slows down the sound inside the cabinet, making it play slightly lower. I wouldn't advise removing it.
