Question for you about amps.

Hi all,

Happy Monday to those that are off and enjoying the sunny morning so far.

I have a question about the Crown XLS602 amp.

I now have 2 of these and have just noticed that the new one that I brought about 3 weeks ago is slightly different in design. Nothing wrong with it or anything. The sound is still pretty powerful and all that but I noticed that on the back there is a button which says dual / bridge.

This button isn't on the other one but it is on this one. So, if I am just using a pair of JBL JRX125's with the amp, should it be on dual as I suspect?
When should I use it on bridge?
Whilst we are at it, can someone explain the whole OHM's thing as I don't understand what it all means. I just plug everything in and play and if it's too loud and clipping, I turn the bass down or the volume slightly.

OK...

Dual: outputs two channels, usually left and right - whatever the wattage is on your amp, half of it is on the left side, half on the right.

Bridged: sometimes called summer, outputs one channel, usually mono - whatever the wattage is on your amp, all of it is going down the one line (your outputs should be labelled to show which output is the summed (bridged) out.

Two main reasons for bridging:
1) you are using separate amps for your left and right speakers.
2) you are powering a single sub in mono.


I'm a bit shaky on ohms (aka resistance), but it measures the resistance to electrical conductance. The higher the ohms on a line or unit the harder the signal has to work to get down the line/through the unit. This is a way of protecting whatever is at the end of the electrical chain, in our case usually speakers, as signal running through your leads unchecked by some form of resistance would probably blow a cone or something.

I'm sure someone will do a better job of explaining it than me, or will correct me, or something.

Ohms is a tricky one to under stand I still cant get my head around it.
