Stealing pics from my site!!

Can anyone advise me of an easy way to watermark my logo in to all my gallery pics?

Steve all I do is use the picture ediditor that comes with the camera ie I use photostudio 5 and then simply open the picture in the program, add text to the picture and resave etc. Easy way to hopefully stop copying?

Thats ok when you have 5 pics to do but when you have 200 pics you want something that enables you to do them all at once and a watermark would be alot better than stamped letters.

I have photoshop 5.0 but it seems a long process. You have to do one at a time and I cant work out how to get 1 to work correctly.:bang:

I'm not sure if the patch process functions in both Photoshop and Fireworks can add watermarks, but you might want to have a look :)

I have used one that can batch resize and watermark with text etc called Faststone Photo Resizer. From www.faststone.org

Right click disable is a good way to stop most. If they are a hacker there isnt really any good ways to stop them. Right click disable is a simple script you can add to each photo or to an entire site. I have found that when you put the photo's in a flash slideshow that will also stop the average user from downloading your pics. It doesnt have to be a slide show , just in flash format.

As you say there are still ways around it, and without meaning to cause offence, the right click disable scrips tend to look un-professional and nasty. I think a watermark is professional way to stop theft of images.

Read down to "The Best Thing Since Bubble Wrap".

Basically, place a few files in your images folder and it automatically adds your watermark to every image "on-the-fly" as it's called by the visitor's browser. You can even go further and only add the watermark to images over a certain size, with a little PHP coding....

Whilst we're on the subject Marc, I can't get the watermark-er to work on your gallery. I've got it switched to "on" in the settings, as yet I haven't touched watermark.psd or watermark.png. Any idea?

Probably the path to wrapper.php in the .htaccess file, should be something like: -

/gallery/albums/wrapper.php

But your Work-In-Progress subdomain might be the problem....if you're really stuck PM me the FTP details and I'll fix it for you :)

The path to wrapper.php hasn't been changed since I installed it. What should it be set to if its not gallery/albums/wrapper.php ?

Do me a favour and place the unzipped contents (phpinfo.php) of the attached file into the same folder as wrapper.php. It should tell me some stuff re paths etc...

Hmmm, the last line in the .htaccess file should be: -

Action watermarked /gallery/albums/wrapper.php

Which is as in the download...so if you haven't changed it....?

You could try: -

Action watermarked home21a/sub002/sc20992-EXGB/vssubdomains/cof/gallery/albums/wrapper.php

or with a leading / :-

Action watermarked /home21a/sub002/sc20992-EXGB/vssubdomains/cof/gallery/albums/wrapper.php

Each host is different, there might be limitations on the PHP functions (although your GD support is enabled, which is what the watermark feature uses)...

Trial and error time I'm afraid! Or submit a ticket to your host, someone there might have an answer as to why it isn't working...

EDIT: By the way Will, remove the phpinfo file from your server, and / or edit your post to remove the link. It's not a good idea to publically display your php info.

I dont use the right click disable either. I think it is a tad rude myself. I dont do anything. Like I mentioned before. If they really want it you cant stop them. Even if it has a water mark. Photoshop can take care of that problem with ease. So I dont protect any pics. I have a friend who knows how to get the pictures out of a flash file as well as any songs or sounds I have in them, but he is a major white hat hacker.

That’s very true and not difficult to do. We try to avoid anything on our site that requires a plug-in but that’s just a personal preference.

We use Fireworks for batching images and it’s very easy to use but I don’t think you will ever stop the determined thief. We see our images popping up all over the place but we just take it as a backhanded compliment, follow it up with a warning mail, which is usually enough to get it removed, but other than that we don’t take it any further.

Glad it was of use. Found many of good freeware programs of use over the years.

Downloaded one a couple of months ago, ideal for PC DJ's that will let you copy the tracks in a playlist to another location. Ideal if you have a playlists that contain your most played tracks and you wanted to copy those tracks to another drive or computer etc.

Perhaps we should have a list of usefull DJ Freeware software. I have four to start the list off if we can put it in one of the forums or some kind of Help Guide.

Well for graphics software, you will go a long way to find anything much easier to use and with so many useful functions as Picasa. Go to http://picasa.google.com and have a look. Full function free software such as this is always worth recommending.
