What To Do....

I recieved an enquiry for a 40th,the venue is in the city.A bar in EC4 on a Saturday.Hours are 8-2am.He also said that it may need to go on longer.He also asked if he could play for an hour.He anticpates 250-300 people.Initially he offered £200.I refused point blank.He has now returned with a offer of £300.
Bear in mind that there is a congestion charge.The hire of a van.I live in the middlesex area too.I'll have to leave my house around 4.30.I have'nt given him an answer yet as i am awaiting an enquiry for the same date.Should i do it? I've just started out again,it,s my fourth gig in 2 months. Could be potentially a few bookings here.What do you reckon?:(

Not worth it, £300 is peanuts for london thats why they outsourse to other area's.
And the idea of someone playing around with my gear (disco gear that is) just terrifies me. Also being central london the parking is terrible. Also if you have to hire a van the costs are way to high for the return. You have to ask yourself, yes it may get you more work but do you want more gigs like this one?

We all hate turning down work but I think you would be better off taking a more local gig for less money , you'll still probably be better off as well less work involved.

.. but what will all the expenses involved in actually getting to the gig be? And how much longer is pack-down likely to be due to location? Coupled with the likelihood of the rental van getting towed (or worse).

But how do you know that he knows what he's doing? If he was DJ he'd be bound to know someone who could do the gig for him. And if you let him it'll be a lot harder to say know to his mates that "know what they are doing".

EC4 on a Saturday night is not very likely to have much if any parking restrictions, the City is usually deserted on a weekend, with the exception of people who are going to functions in one of the many bars that only open for private hire on Saturdays.

Which bar is it, out of interest?

Not one I know, although street parking around there should be ok on a Saturday. Do you know what the actual venue access is like, a lot of the bars that do private hire in the City are either upstairs or basements.

So you get home say 6am in the morning--getting in and out will probably be a nightmare--you are seriously undervaluing your time--dont bother at those rates they are taking the Michael.:eek:

Ive just quoted £600 for a midweek gig in the City of London (admittedly its a specialist function no one else can cover and I live in Northamptonshire)

I did a midweek Corporate job in a Nottingham Hotel this week--getting in and out of the Hotel was the usual nightmare--going through the kitchens etc etc I said to the hotel guy helping me--I bet the Discos round here who know this place charge extra---you bet they do he said--:eek:

on topic I wouldnt do it for that money or let someone else use my gear you get into all sorts of bother when they decide its not loud/bassy enough and want to do things like blow up your speakers or thermal your amp.

It's still £300 if the other booking doesn't come off (& as has been said before, earning £300 is better than earning nowt & watching the telly), although what will you do if you take this one & the other one also wants to confirm the booking?

That’s a massive amount of hours for little money. I would guess Eskie would be up around a 1k for that gig and would not let an unknown use his kit.

He is a seasoned DJ so if you take off a bit of experience and possibly not the same kit you need to be looking at what Crazy K was quoting, the £600.00 touch. :eek:

I think some people are missing the point here.

Central London is a pain in the neck, yes, but as you've just started out again, I'd take it.

Congestion charge is only £8 anyway, if it was payable.

As you're getting yourself re-established, I would take the gig HOWEVER you need to ensure that you are getting recompensed accordingly.
