Jingles, voice-overs & show openers

I'm just wondering if many of you use jingles, voice-overs or show openers...or do you leave that to the radio stations?

The reason I ask is because I was having a clear out & found a cassette with some jingles which I used to use...mainly in a pub where I had a residency, although I havent used them for at least 15 years.

I smiled when I heard one: "Rob James - probably the best DJ in the world". It was done by the legendary Bill Mitchell, (sadly no longer with us) as a mick take of the TV ad he did in the 1980's for a certain lager. :D

i use them some times as i make them myself i always play one at the end sayin "entertainment by rds etc and the number bis cards from the dj etc goodnight" works well.

ahhh, the subject of jingles! :D I recently bought a cd from ebay with over 500 jingles pre loaded on it and it was great!! :D There were all sorts on there including most of the new fairgound ride jingles and some are very funny :lol:

If you want to purchase the cd for yourself, just type in ''kermis funfair jingles'' into the ebay search and there should be a seller selling them.. and dont worry.. its not illegal! its an official cd :)

I had some made for Youth Events. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I've never actually used them.

It depends on their use Pete.

I used the Ultimate ones in pubs around 12-13 years ago and they worked very nicely, especially at the start and finish to the night.

i think they work well with youth events such as the likes of under 18's etc, at the end of the day a lot of kids these days listen to the radio and think they are cool.

Only ever use famous sound-bites like Austin Powers "Oh, Behave" or "1960's here I come baby, yeah!" or "Good Moooooorning, Vietnam!".

I LOVE using custom jingles in my disco. I use a good variety of jingles ranging from name ID's, sweepers, music mixes, :30 & :60's promos and sung jingles. I only play the jingles when the dancefloor is dead. I never play jingles while the dancefloor is full - spoils the continuity.

I'm not a fan of generic jingles e.g "Ladies and gentlemen, last orders at the bar". I use custom jingles only :D :D :D

Bottom line - 1. Helps people remember what your disco name is and 2. Makes your mixes sound allot more professional :D

I use a few jingles what i have had made, I have a number of funny jingles that i only use at xmas partys or something like that.

I have one to open the show up at xmas partys .... i get the lights completley off in the room so i am in pitch black, It goes "Ladies & Gentlemen Coming At you loud live & direct from the your darkest depths of your imagination, Welcome to MegaMix Entertainments, This is Dj Steve" it works quite well.

I finish on the Pearl & Dean - Asteroid theme tune which was used in the odeon cinema... Right after the very last song...That works well too.

I still use them, use them when using a cd player and there is 2 good tracks on the same cd. Personally think it sounds professional. . .

I had 3 jingles made at the start of the year, and used them a couple of times, but i did get positive comments about them, "sounds professional" etc. May use them next year, will definitely use them nye.

About mid 60s Radio Caroline era.

The history behind them in the UK is they were used on Pirate Radio ships to
give a bit of "entertainment" value ---to compete with the mood of the times then which was predominantly for "live music" and for advertising.

After all DJs on radio stations were just people playing recorded music discs.

So they had to put on a show that would attract your attention--producing character DJs.

Jingles were a bit of a novelty on Mobile Discos in the early days.

What the attraction is now I dont know--:D

Ive had a search but cant seem to find anything.. just want something to introduce me on to the stage.

I use a home-produced 'jingle' for the ending of some kids' discos, and another based on sounds found in the well-known 'Worms' game.

I was recently rather taken aback to hear a ring tone very similar to the one I had made. Not identical, but horribly similar. Who made it first - that's the question...
