Running speakers in series.

Been looking to use both pairs of my speakers together on the same amp, both speakers have the same impedence (8 ohms) but have different wattage values as following.

Mackie s300z 300 watts rms @ 8 ohms
peavey st- 15 175 watts rms @ 8 ohms

Now I know that when linking two together you half impedence and gain more power from amplifier. At 4 ohms per side the amplifier can produce 640 watts rms per channel.
Now my main question is what would be the best way to link them ? ie cable from amp going into mackie first then from mackie into peavey or into peavey and then into mackie.
The mackies have a higher overall rating but I am afraid of pushing either one too hard and reducing both quailty and life expectancy.

I am using a pfx 1000 model
I have been running mackies on the pfx 1000 and the peaveys seperatly on a pfx 625. But I am thinking of having tem on same amp to speed up setup a bit and reduce cabling.

It doesn't make any difference which order you wire them in.. electric current doesn't realise, it just sees a 8ohm load.. then another 8ohm load.

You'll probably find that you won't get the best out of the Mackies doing this because the peaveys will start to distort when the mackies are no where near their max volume.

By the way.. the thread title is very misleading.. what you are doing is running the speakers in parallel.. not series.. seires would mean re-wiring the cabs inside and would present a 16ohm load to the amp!

Like the theory, but wouldn't do it! Power mismatch of speakers is too great, and you run a very real risk of winding the Mackies up to a nice volume, and blowing the Peaveys in the process.

....which would actually still only give you 175w max, assuming the amp was designed to drive 16ohm, and certainly would blow the 175w's if run at higher power.
Not that that is relevent to the question, as mentioned above, but just a bit of electronics trivia:rolleyes:
