Disaster!!!!

Had a school talent contest this evening that was organised by a friend but i offered to help him with sound + lights. Half way through a girl singing a kelly Clarkson song really well.... the mic cuts out. Of course i was sat at the back of the room on the desk and had little controll as it must have been the connection on the mic.....its seems no one on stage had the common sense to pass her a diferent one.

I know it couldn't be helped as a mic failure is not predictable but still so frustrating. :mad: :mad: :mad:

Out of curiosity, which mics were they using? Did you find out what made it cut out?

dont let it get to you,happens to us all believe me.
by recent mishap was at a wedding when the sound limiter kicked in
and turned everything off during the bride and grooms first dance.
trouble was i didnt even know there was a sound limiter installed ,
there was no signs on the stage and nothing visible and the management didnt bother to inform me.
so now i carry a crystal ball round with me,never know when your need it.

sure SM58 which is why i was so surprised though i get the feeling one of them might have been dropped....such a shame to use expensive mics with people that don't understand the value of them.

I used a JTS radio mic in Blenheim Palace (Orangery) and it seemed to cut out and cause all sorts of crap. On thinking my mic was broken, when i got it home it worked fine. Must of been something to do with the venue! Any ideas?

If the space you were working in had lots of hard surfaces, particularly concrete or stone, then you will probably be getting multi-path cancellations just like you do with sound. So you get spots with coverage and spots without, sometimes this may even depend on the positioning of other people in the room.

Also possibly interference from something locally, such as another DJ on the same frequency, an in-house system or other radio system close by.
Just so many possibilties! It's the risk we take with radio mics:(
