Most bizarre wedding of all time yesterday - set up ready for first dance as briefed by Groom - Father of the Bride, pops up and says "the Jazz Pianist is going to do the first dance and then a 45 minute spot - I thought fair enough, money for old rope. I then got on and played for 45 minutes, got the dancefloor moving, and then up pops FOB again - Jazz Pianist is going to o another set! So on he comes - 80% of the crowd clear off to the bar, leaving BOB & Bride Dancing and others just talking. A few lads did try and take the pee by singing for a while, but then got bored, and went to the bar!
I get back on, instant reaction, people back on the floor . FOB comes up- we want some Rock - we all love it - did a bit of Bryan Adams/Bon Jovi - cleared the floor! Went back to some Robbie, Shakira , Gwen stefani- got it going- Up pops Bride- we'd like a slowies spot - did as I was told- B&G dance everyone else clears off - Did 2 songs - went for a bit of Disco Cheese- floor fills -did three songs- up pops FOB - Jazz Pianist is back on now( by now its 11.15pm) for half an hour! Floor clears- apart from FOB and Bride - people coming up to me, moaning and asking whats going on - Anyway, I get back on at 11.45 - three tunes, packed floor- and finish! Easiest £400 I've ever earned, but bored stupid!

just goes to show the importance of playing to the masses not the minority .....if that had been derby and the jazz pianist came on for 30 mins at 11.15 that would have been the end of the evening everyone would have left......

Aah the beauty of Country House weddings - nowhere to run to baby!:D

By the way, they weren't locals- they were from Essex - lots of ladies with white shoes! (or perhaps that was because it was a wedding! LOL)

Nah, it's coz they were from Essex. I can't remember the last time I saw a white shoe at a wedding, unless you count the scruffy herbert who also had on an un-ironed shirt & ripped jeans (as mentioned in the thread on dress a few months back), but they were trainers.

Great to be different innit :) Can imagine a cultured evening of Jazz wouldn't go down well with the Essex lads & Sharon and Tracy's. Natural retreat would be the bar - hope they had plenty of lager on tap:D

well im sure we have all had nights where other people try and organise what they want personally and not for the majority, yes it does get on your nerves but the good thing about this would have to be when the disco comes back on everyone is up dancing, makes you look good!
