Hi all, now I remember seeing briefly something in a forum some time ago about this but can't find it now,:bang: I wonder if anyone can help me.
Basically i want to list all my music by song title and artist so it is a catalogue:cool: . I'm guessing I would need to set something up in excel, unless anyone knows of a programme that already exists. I'm not about to go pcdj just yet and need to help my assistant, (aka partner):zip: , to find tunes as and when needed, rather than trawl through cases of cd's.

I dont know if such a system exists but quite frankly if your going to all that trouble which might involve data inputting every song physically on to a spreadsheet---why not bite the bullet now and start ripping all your tracks on to a hard drive and use a DJ program like PCDJ or something similar.

You would need a laptop anyway to read your spreadsheet presumably?

The latest WMA program or one Steve( Corabar) recommended -Audiograbber--can automatically insert track titles when ripping provided your Lap/ PC is linked to the Internet.

That way you can read and have access to all your titles and artists at a click-- even if they are not in folders--a lot of mine arent but you can always find them on a search.

You would need to cross reference the CD number on the tagging.

You would not be a full digital DJ, but benefit from the technology available.

It would then be a simple matter to move over to being Digital when you wanted and were happy with the reliability.

I think it was Rice who said--he has all the music you could possibly need on CD---finding it was sometimes the difficult bit !

Maybe someone knows an easier method?

I find working with the USB reader and Laptop is so much easier, im totally sold on the idea now,

I used to use a program called MP3Stock - used to scan CDs or drives for MP3s and sort into a database arranged by song name, artist name, bit rate etc. It also exported to HTML or text file formats :)

Actually there are a number of programmes. I use CD Trustee, which automatically looks up the CD track listing for you. You can also run a report by artist and output as a PDF - I usually take a printout with me to gigs

I use Music Label 2007 (http://www.codeaero.com/music-label/).

Stick in your CD, it nips off to the internet and inserts the listing, then stick the next CD in. I catalogued all my 560+ cds in a couple of days.

Full cataloguing facility, you can input information manually if required.

Also due to the current exchange rate, the Pro version is only about £30.

I use CATraxx and find it very good.. It also goes to the CDDB, looks up the song and puts it into the list.

You can format this list anyway you want or, as I do, export to Excel so that I can manipulate it there instead.

Cheers guys, lots to try and adapt, Way back in the 80's when i first started i had an a4 ringbinder full of handwritten details of all my 45's and albums and all done with no computer!!!.
My how things have changed, Had a play with a friends laptop last friday at a gig, using virtual dj which was simple and easy to use, but not made enough £'s yet to warrant going pcdj. So will use the info wisely and knock up a catalogue for H to refer to when she's looking up tunes for requests, then match these to individual cd number.
Got a bank hol weekend and no gigs so should box it off.

If you can somehow manage the cost of going digital ---go for it now--
nothing else compares--providing you have your back up sorted.

Ive just been given a "play list" for next week of about 100 tunes:eek: :eek: :eek:

So if at any time the customer says--can you play xxxxxxxxxxxxxx its just a click or two away. YEE HA!

Might look at getting a REALLY cheap laptop to use as a catlogue in the mean time, some real cheapies on ebay, and hopefully by end of summer save enough to get all singing and dancing one and use that primarily with cd decks as a back up.

Well you could buy TWO Hard drives ( one as a back up ) and start putting everything on to them in readiness for when you can afford Denon, Cortex or Laptop.

I really wouldnt waste time doing the job twice.

I just had someone knock me up something on Microsoft access.

If I remember rightly, it only took him 5 or 10 minutes.

When I buy a new cd, I just give it a number & input the artists & titles. It automatically puts them in order, and a couple of times a year I print out an updated list which goes in my ring binder.

You can also search on the computer for songs or artists containing a certain word or name etc.

Although it only gives artists & titles, that's more than sufficient for my requirements.

I'm a CD Trustee user. Does me a treat and has the auto lookup function although you do need to make a cursory check each time as you can import other peoples' typos.

Do all versions of PCDJ give the same Music Database options?

I want something that will rip my CD's save in MP3 (or .wav or both) and create a database with minimum of manual data entry. Someone has suggested AudioGrabber but this seams to store all files in one folder (wav and MP3 together.
