To dynatwin or not to dynatwin

Was lookign at adding a set of dmx lights to my setup and was looking at either a 4 head pack of acme dynamo's or 2 head pack of amce dynatwins. Wondering if anyone has any comments good or bad on either of these units. Also anyone know if you can use them as spotlights when using an appropriate dmx controller?
Difference in price is negligable but i want best effect I can get for the money. Can get dyna twin heads pack for £300 or 4 head system of dynamos for £330 with a ca-8 controller.

Spin Dynamos mate all the way I looked at both side by side the heads on the dynatwin are far too close together , and due to smaller optics they dont throw out as much light as the dynamos.

For me the 4 dynamos are a far more versatile effect which gives you far more scope to vary your show.

I know Crazy k loves his dynatwins but as said I didnt personally like them over the dynamo.

I use two dynatwins, with a bit of haze they are really good. And yes when run in DMX, you can use either head as a spotlight.
And two effects to carry instead of 4

scans not the twins as you can put 2 of them on a t bar and have a t bar each side of your rigg

have to agree with flatliners.......more options with the Dyno scan's - you can spread them out more to better effect. IMHO!

Personally I wouldn't mind eight of them spaced out across the top of the rig just to random flash up, move the mirror 45 degrees or so, then conk em out every now and then.

Ok next obvious question is, are they bright? are they well defined images from the gobos? are they reliable or do they eat bulbs . Any thing else you think I may need to know about the dynamos just before buying?
Also anyone know what controller would allow me to use as a spotlight? it comes with a ca-8 controller but im pretty sure that it is a bit basic for that.

They're bright alright. Very good on that front from a 100w effect.

You'd need a DMX controller (ideally with a joystick to have complete control). Although I will warn you the results probably wont be what you had in mind - So don't go buying them just for the "followspot" feature - Which isnt actually a feature...so yeah you get me drift - yarr :)

Will I bought 8 as I thought 100w effects Im gonna need more of them ... most ive ever used is 6 and most people are dazzled with 4. so I have a set in the shed waiting for wembley to call lolol

on reliability if im honest 6 of mine went back as someone forgot to attach the lamp holders to the units but since then not one single problem yes they are very bright i have six on the go in the vid on my website. and you can focus the image.

lampwise what i have found is when one goes they all go even did a wedding and had the domino effect all up connected etc switched them on an .... pop,pop,pop,pop but wouldnt say they eat lamps.

Hi Spin, you probably didnt realise but ive got the Dynatwins, although I understand why Dave( Dragonfly) prefers them as single units---hes after a gig at Wembley Stadium:D

Because of space problems and setting up etc I prefer the two heads together---its still an impressive light for me and pretty bright.

Presume you need an extra dmx controller in addition to the CA8 which I got with the lights? cant see anything in the instruction book:eek:

Spin, If you want to borrow them sometime for a road test let me know or come up here for a demo in the kitchen when its dark:D

I have had no problems with them although they dont get used every week.

They are very robust, I managed to tip over a light stand when setting up before a Wedding and they smashed into the floor of a marquee, but still going fine

i got to say i like dynatwin beacuse u can have have one at each side of goal post with other efects like njd chaos just to fill the room but in a small pub you can also put to dynatwin at one side on a T bar whci would look quite good

Im not that fussed as I have flood lights anyway but might be useful.

What does this dipswitch config do? :confused:

I set mine as follows-
head 1 d/s 1 down
head 2 d/s 2, 10 down
head 3 d/s 3 down
head 4 d/s 4, 10 down

So that 2 & 4 are inverted to 1 & 3.

If your suggestion makes them look more impressive I might try it the weekend!!

New lights arrived today, 4 pack of dynamos. Turned out one of the heads was faulty with a bad stepper motor. Luckily was able to jury it to get unit working but shop will send out a replacement motor for me.
Look good cant wait to use them this weekend with a bit of haze.
Running 2 on invert dips with one matching the master. Looks good.

good choice I,m after a couple of vango arcs after your rave reviews spin or a couple of barrel scanners just something different but barrels maybe over my budget around £200 ish for a pair the dips i put may need to be

head 2and 4 dips 2,3,10
and head 3 dips 1,2,3

it makes 2 do the opposite of 1 and 3 do the opposite of 4 looks really good imo.

The second link is the dynaroll spin (that i mentioned a few posts up).

They look good, I think maybe Acme should consider a 2x Dynamo and 2x Dynaroll package....:)

no its just the new product 250w version but they now do a dynamo 250w version ..... to me 250 seemed a bit steep as you can get acme rovers at 259 a pair? or scimitars at 215 a pair.
