A friend lent me a few issues last year...I was very impressed.

I've been meaning to subscribe, but haven't yet got round to it.

It comes out bi-monthly and costs £2.50.

Subsciption is slightly cheaper I think.

If you're a member of NADJ or SEDA then it comes free as part of your subscription.

I used to read DJ magazine when it was called 'Jocks' and was a lot more mobile based. I stopped reading it when I stopped DJing in clubs.....(during the war etc...:rolleyes: )

I managed to get a look at a few copies of Pro Mobile last year and I wasn't very impressed to be honest. In the issues I saw, the sheer volume of advertisements was unbelievable. Much more information can be gained from forums like these.

I know a lot of people like the publication, but I honestly can't see myself buying it.....ever!.

I don't think you can really compare the like of pro mobile to the forum in that they are totally different mediums with different aims and objectives..

I'm a pro mobile subscriber and think it's a pretty good mag for the money.... It's still only a young ish mag and has taken time to develop BUT i think over the past year it has come on leaps and bounds and can only get better.... I know that one of the major problems the mag has is content and getting people to submit articles and things for it.... So if anyone is a budding writer or doesnt mid reviewing a product or 6 then why not get in touch with them.

Perhaps another angle in this topic could be rather than be negative about the mag then say how it could be improved and what would people like to see in it...

I'd agree there are lots of ads in it BUT these are all DJ related (so not as if they aren't any use to us) and if it keeps the costs low i for one am glad of them.

the ads keep the cost at £2.50- most other mags cost more.
That not bad or £12 year subs for it to be delivered.

It's ok in content, but it seems quite old school.

I subscribe, and fully enjoy reading it. This month's copy came out of the blue, as I had forgotten all about it, normally I'm sitting on the stairs waiting for it to arrive :P.

Regarding the Ads - Yeah alot of ads, but they do give you a good idea on prices and products available, so it's not all bad.

Adverts in a magazine! Whatever next. To be fair out of 93 pages, there are over 50 pages of editorial- I don't think that's bad for £2.50 ( or in fact for free, due to the bounteous nature of NADJ) The great thing about the magazine is that if you don't like the content, you can write your own.

Obviously a magazine needs ads to survive, it's the sheer amount of ads I found over-excessive.

I personally found the publication to be pretty poor. If I had paid the £2.50 I would have felt severely short changed.

I see there's many fan's of the publication in this thread, I'm not one of them. Each to their won I suppose. :)

In my view, anything that raises the profile of the mobile DJ, and drags the cowboys kicking and screaming into this century has got to be good. All of the forums are trying to promote, doing the job properly, as does Pro-mobile, this can only lead to the betterment of the industry as a whole, and raise the bar for everyone.

Well I'm another avid reader (and re-reader). Was also nicely suprised to see it yesterday. Had some really really good reviews of the Denon D2 and one other digital controllers. There is nothing at all like this anywhere else so for what it's worth I think it's great (however there does seem to be a little bit too much NADJ news this month - still got that to read!)

Cowbowys are a big boil on our industry, don't want to be letting them near the latest gear so they sound good aswell:eek: :bang:

No I meant cowboys - I want a state of utopia where everyone trades legitimately - and where the customer recognises the mobile DJ for what he is worth, not treats us likes some sort of pariah because of those dragging us down.

Its free with NADJ membership? serves me right for dissing NADJ in the DJA thread. Ive paid for subscription for the past two years now as well as being a member. Someone is taking me for a ride.

I like it, there are a fair amount of reasonable articles. More recently a welcomed increase in reviews has helped. Sometimes I agree with whats being said in it. Sometimes I shout incredulously at the letters page. Its not the Times Sunday magazine but its better than nothing.

I subscribe to the magazine and for £12 a year i don't think thats bad at all.....as pointed out in previous posts it does keep you up to speed with new product reviews, disco equiptment shows and nadj news.....so what it has a lot of ads, i have enquired about some new kit this morning due to some of the ads in the mag.......its a good read in my opinion....:cool:

Although it is full of ads, I think it's a good read, and very useful for the countless hoards of DJ's who do not use the internet like we do.

OK, here is a different take on it - why don't we all write something informative and educational or just funny for ProMobile? C'mon, it will only take a few minutes really... I vote EliteDJ goes first, you have a lot of valid comments to make on here, let's see it in print.

As for slamming the cowboys, I always feel it's worth trying to make them see the light first!

Spot on Brian - they may be cowboys by accident rather than by intention. When I started up I knew, or thought nothing about safety or insurance. Pro-mobile is an excellent educational tool.

I have got a load of articles planned for pro mobile, the first two have been published but I have plenty more up my sleeve.

Like any magazine it's only as good as the people who contribute, it's easy to say it's rubbish but a lot harder to actually to pen to paper and write something worthy of inclusion.

It would be good for the magazine to get to a stage that it can pick what it wants to publish.

Sat in tonight - first Friday off for a while due to short notice cancellation (for sad reasons). Wife is out as she thought I would be working and bizarrely I am flicking through this months Pro mobile and the MDD site at same time - I agree they are different things, the forum works well - for most of the time anyway - but the mag is still trying to find its way i think. The ads are what you get with any mag - and they're actually quite informative but repetitve from month to month. However I find the text a bit too much biased towards kit and equipment. Interesting to know whats new but (for example) 4 pages on the Vestax VCI-100 is about 3 pages too many (do these guys buy the space?). Then there's three pages on the Denon and two pages on the Kam..... Don't get me wrong - reviews of kit are great but these are just a bit too long and anoraky. What I do love in the mag are the music reviews - I always try to beat them on at least four tracks - and I enjoy the 'true stories' bits where we often share common experiences.

On balance - yeah, the Pro Mobile guys are getting it more right than wrong, but crisper reviews, a bit more on music, a bit more on the businees side and even a bit more on the actual working side (experiences etc) woud make it much stronger.
