I (Like quite a few) got an email a while ago from 1venue.co.uk. I read on another forum (unnamed) that this was bad news, and alot of people had just hit the delete key to the email.
I took a slightly different route, in that I followed on and "registered my intrest" with the company (carefully reading everything as I went along). Now I had this email today, explaining how the system works
Thank you for your ongoing interest. One of our consultants will ring you in the near future. In the meantime may we take this opportunity to tell you more.
You will see an example of how your listing will look, which will be.
Company name
Your Location
Whether your liability insured, and PAT tested
The price for a basic 4 hour set which is the price you will set.
Under the 4 hour set price will be an information link, which customers can click on to view more information about you and your setup.
The listed price is for a basic disco of 4 hours. If you have bigger or smaller setups and wish to let customers know or you charge for extra things like i.e. after a set distance you charge for travelling etc, you can put that information into the more info link. We will also ask you how much you charge each hour after the 4 hours, because as you well know not all parties are just 4 hours.
Once a customer goes onto the 1venue.co.uk site they will go to the services menu select as in your case a mobile disco or karaoke, and then select the area. This will then bring up all the discos in that area. Once they have read through the choices they are asked to select 3 as a provisional booking. If they have selected yourself we will ring you to let you know we have a provisional booking wanting you. If you accept the booking, we then ask the customer to go ahead with confirming the booking.
At this stage we take a 10% commission fee off your listed price, and ask the customer to pay that 10% as a deposit. The rest of the balance is then paid to you on the night in CASH. We recommend that you add a little bit extra to your listing price to cover our 10% commission, you still get the money you want for your 4 hour set, and we get our 10%.
No one loses and everyone is happy.
Lastly we do make customers sign a terms and conditions too. They agree too many things, like cancellation fees which are as follows. 28 days or less 25% of balance fee payable, 14 days or less 50% payable, 7 days or less full balance 100% payable, which goes to you. If you do get cancelled we will try our best to get you another booking, but understand we can’t guarantee this. Also customers are told if there isn’t parking they will be charged extra, if there is early setup of more than 1 hour before start time there is an hourly charge. If parties are up stairs the customer must let us know and this there may be an extra charge. If anyone abuses DJ’s or equipment the damage is at their cost.
If you have any more questions either you can wait for when our consultant calls or e-mail us at [email protected]

Now I'm undecided if this is "good news" or bad, OK they take a 10% commission fee, but as they say, you can make your fee higher to cover this. So as I'm undecided I would like your opinions, and indeed hopefully at the same time make you aware of them (for good or bad purposes).
Go..... ;)
