OTSdj Vs Numark D2

Had an email from a chap recommending OTSdj.What's your feedback compared to Numark?

Not too sure about Numark as I havent used that unit, but I use Ots and think its a great piece of software.

Use both.

Find myself gravitating towards OTS mainly, with the d2 used for backup or cueing up special songs (first dances, "happy birthday" etc.).

Much easier to grab a mouse and drag/drop/move stuff around etc. than fiddle with the buttons on the d2.

If it's an either/or, then its OTS all the way.

I used PCDJFX for years and bought a new laptop and started having problems. I now use Virtual DJ - download the trial of that and have a play.

Good to know you received my email regarding OtsDJ. Its also good to hear from other users of OtsDJ.

Its an excellent piece of software - stable and reliable. As said in my email to Scoopd - I have used it for over 7 years without a single problem. Wish I could say the same about Windows.

Just to let you know that I am still thinking about OTSdj but have few reservations as I've noticed a few people have had "skipping" on the OTS discussion group and this is why I want a more solid alternative to PCDJ.

As I said previously just bought PCDJ Red VRM ( from my local DJ shop) and it works fine on my new Laptop.

One of the other Disco shops I deal with recommended OTS, the sales guy is a working DJ and reckoned it was excellent.

If you're going down the software route have a look at Virtual DJ....(or numark cue as it's also known). It does everything you'd need in a DJ / Disco situation BUT works out cheaper than OTS.... Especially when you add on the karaoke and video modules to OTS....

With Virtual DJ you get audio / video and karaoke all included for the one price.... not a case of add on's and things...

My experience, as an application support specialist for several specialised applications, lack of user system admin is a big cause of a lot of issues.

One of the most recently reported issues with audio skipping is with ASIO drivers for some external soundcards e.g. Echo Indigo DJ but works OK with WDM drivers.

With both of the main bits of laptop/pc software showing wierd and difficult or imposible to track faults this is what pushed me toward looking at the 3 new dedicated DJ equipment pieces from Newmark, Denon and Cortex (really = Gemini)

all of the dedicated dj equipment just works on its own - knowing totally what hardware and software and firmware and componets are inside so theres none of the problems of trying to make different items from diffent places work with each other.

with the hard disc controlers being new, i think that all 3 of the makers have brought out new firmware to remidy anything thats cropped up and look to be releasing more as needed. the massive diffrence with the hard drive controlers in my mind is that absolutely everything to do with the hard drive controler is all thankfully from just one company - so if the cortex controler makes funny noises on long files (im not saying it does - just an example), then its 100% down to cortex to write a bit of new cortex softwre to work with cortex hardware and the cortex processor chip within the known amount of cortex memory buffer. the same "in-house" idea obviously goes for denon and for newmark.

when i used to dj with a laptop and had strange untracble problems after about an hour or 2 all the diffrent people would say their bit was working fine and that the problem must be one of the other bits - the buck was being passed around so much, it took out a DHL account :lol:

You would use the Echo DJ WDM driver which works perfectly and sounds great.

By setting OtsDJ to use the Echo DJ soundcard virtual 3/4 WDM as the on air sound channel you can set in OtsDJ to use the internal soundcard as the cue channel.

In this way you have the choice of plugging headphones directly into the laptop or feed the laptop soundcard into another channel on your mixer. The later method opens up the possibility of using Ots Player as a 3rd deck.
